Check a T12 chart and it makes sense.
Banks paid 10% because the fed funds rate was just as high.

Did you have question WHY they need to pay such a high rate of return? Maybe because it's risky AF and they have few interested sophisticated buyers?
@luke_broyles Government printing does not mean Bitcoin is the chosen alternative. There are 20K altcoins - most with better technology, gold, and many other potential replacements.
@Walker1963JFK@Marmo43675@Rajatsoni@BitcoinJunkies In the end, BTC is perfect for tracking and logging nothing. It has lots of functions and features but itโs missing the critical element of hard money. Also, mount gox? FTX? People want convenience and risk and 3rd party - BTC is just worse at it
