@Stuart_Watson I’m not buying this narrative that we shouldn’t buy players from the championship, there are some very good premier league players who have made the step up. My concern is more only having had one season where he’s looked a top level player. Big gamble at £20M
@JonSuperIpswich We need to strengthen in every position except Left wing imo if we are serious about staying up including 2 CF’s. Can’t see a case for signing Cajuste when he can’t break into the team at championship level, one we need to say thanks & move on from.
@Stuart_Watson Excellent questions Stu, it brought out a detailed explanation for the 3 key areas of confusion us supporters has on deadline day. Szmodics, Azeez & why no striker
@LPenning_96 You can only assume this is to replace Young following his injury, seems to be a lot of emphasis on leadership qualities rather than like for like on the pitch, Johnson to back up RB, O Shea if necessary but agree it’s a bit of a random one
@chriswood1875x@SunderlandAFC I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ve paid a bit upfront for the initial, plus a decent bonus if we get promoted, Something we have done quite a bit in the past.
@SBRLX81 It’s not going to be Philogene, either Szmodics or Akpom’s loan cut short would be my bet, someone from that attacking unit will definitely depart, potentially 2 if we also sign a striker
@TheCruncher76 I think if Szmodics is firmly part of our plans post January then you have to back him to start. It does leave us light of impact players from the bench though
@JohnSlaterITFC Especially with 3 defenders on the bench, you would think 2 would be plenty, so not like there wasn’t enough room for at least 1 of them
@SBRLX81 I wouldn’t want to let him go, he’s instrumental in us getting promoted, however if it looks like it will turn into a situation like the Omari one in the summer that really wouldn’t be good for us, Hopefully he’s happy to see it out at least until the end of the season
@TheCruncher76 We might as well have a tougher opponent rather than lower league as we always make hard work of it. Perhaps Mid to lower level premier league team at home to see how competitive we can be with this group
@IpswichTown That was very woeful, so many players performing well below the levels they should be performing at, Just looks like 11 players who are playing together for the first time
@alexnljones Looks a bit light at the top end, we would usually have 10 attacking players, given Burns is a way off that’s just 8 & 2 of them new to the league & may take time to settle. With 4 Right backs, just feels like we haven’t got that balance quite right
@Boon143387James@JPercyTelegraph It’s a difficult sell to sign a back up left back as Leif will always be first choice, RB is where we are a bit weaker in terms of first choice so creates competition but all Johnson, Young and even Furlong could cover LB if Leif got injured
@Iain_Taylor8 That left 10 role has never really suited him, just doesn’t seem to know what ball to play when he’s in the inside channel. I would have him on the right, get back to basic wing play, Beat the full back get crosses in & hopefully his confidence would build from there
@NW1Stephen I think with Leif he’s so important to us and the price we’ll want will be much higher than anyone is prepared to pay, given that the season he had last year was a bit of a mixed bag. Hopefully this won’t unsettle him too much
@talk_t0wn Yes, Burns not fit for a while, Ogbene still getting into his stride, Broadhead probably off, Need 3 options from the bench / rotate, only takes a couple of injuries before it looks thin, plus we want to keep improving the squad which we’ll be able too with that sort of money
@NW1Stephen Was my initial thought too that it was a bit panicky but then when you think it through the Broadhead, Hutchinson, Philogene situations, we’ve had to react. Primarily a striker but can also play in other attacking roles, doesn’t rule out a move for another striker
@Thomas_Lane11 Wouldn’t surprise me at all if Johnson started wide right, Just given the opposition, Injuries and everything else that’s going we might go for a more conservative approach, make sure we don’t get beat
