DESPITE RUMORS, ROWAN’S COACH RULEY TO REMAIN IN GLASSBORO
By Frank Rossi - @D3FBHuddle
With the move of former Susquehanna Football (@SURiverHawkFB) Head Coach Tom Perkovich (@UACoachPerk) to UAlbany Football’s top job, rumors swirled over the last week about the potential fate of former Susquehanna assistant and current Rowan Football (@Rowan_Football) Head Coach Pat Ruley (@FollowTheRuless). Ruley has told “In the (D3FB) Huddle” that he is staying put at Rowan.
“I came here to get something done, and I’m not leaving until I do that,” Ruley said about Rowan after two years as the Profs’ leader.
Ruley would not disclose what offers he may have received over the past week, but rumors included that he might join Perkovich at UAlbany or take over the top job at Susquehanna. While Ruley suggested he was honored to hear those rumors about himself, he feels Rowan is poised for a playoff run soon with the foundation that has come together the past two years.
“I genuinely believe [Rowan is] a very unique place at this level,” Ruley said. “New AD Shawn Tucker [former Rutgers VP for Athletic Development] is big-time here, and he’s going to continue to elevate this place — both in his experience and in facilities.”
In 2025, Rowan lost a double-overtime thriller to Christopher Newport and another nail-biter to Salisbury — both 2025 D3FB Playoff teams. However, Ruley made sure his 7-2-1 Profs would get a taste of the postseason, applying for Rowan’s first postseason game since 2014. The move netted his team an 8th win in a down-to-the-wire ECAC Bowl game at Utica University.
Ruley felt it important to address the rumors to ensure his team and recruits know where he stands. “We are ready to move forward,” Ruley said of Rowan Football, which will likely be music to the ears of Profs fans and supporters who have seen a great turnaround from a 5-5 2023 season already under Ruley and his staff.
