Narcissists actually think their ability to lie and manipulate makes them smart and skillful.
As if being “good” at being abusive is something to be proud of.
There’s a reason why the rest of us don’t engage in that sort of behavior…and it’s not because we’re stupid
Narcissist bread crumbing is giving minimal inconsistent attention, affection, or vague promises, just enough to keep someone emotionally invested and accessible (please SHARE)...
Warning: you cannot understand how dishonest a malignant narcissist is capable of being until it's aimed at you. Healthy people assume lies have limits. They don't. They will invent vile stories about someone who did nothing, and they use the lie as a weapon. It is an act of violence of a very desperate and deranged pathology..
Never underestimate how hard a narcissistic abuser works to make you look like the problem. While you're trying to figure out what the hell is happening, they're planting seeds and shaping the story. You're trying to survive. They're managing the audience.
Covert narcissists parents are the most crazy making.
A covert narcissist parent creates two realities:
—The private reality: where the scapegoat child is undermined, sabotaged, gaslit, blamed, and sometimes even deliberately disabled emotionally or psychologically. Every move the child makes is used against them, and any attempt to show independence or strength is quietly sabotaged.
—The public reality: where the parent paints themselves as the self-sacrificing, long-suffering caregiver who just happens to be raising a “difficult” or “troubled” child. To outsiders, they look patient, strong, and admirable—someone doing their best under “unfortunate circumstances.”

How Golden Children Reinforce the False Narrative
1.Parental Indoctrination
- Golden children are groomed from an early age to see the narcissistic parent as heroic, self-sacrificing, and infallible.
- They’re rewarded for loyalty, for parroting the parent’s narrative, and for distancing themselves from the scapegoat.
2.Echoing the Parent’s Story
- When outsiders notice the scapegoat struggling, the golden child is quick to confirm: “Yeah, they’ve always been difficult… Mom/Dad does everything for them but nothing’s ever enough.”
-This echo adds credibility to the parent’s façade, since siblings are assumed to be neutral witnesses.
3.Invalidating the Scapegoat’s Reality
- If the scapegoat tries to speak out, the golden child often counters with denial or minimization: “That never happened,” or “You’re just too sensitive.”
- This creates a united front between parent and golden child, making the scapegoat feel isolated, outnumbered, and disbelieved.
4.Strategic Comparison
- The narcissist sets up constant comparisons: “Why can’t you be more like your sibling?”
- The golden child often plays along, consciously or unconsciously, by highlighting their own “good behavior” in contrast to the scapegoat’s “failures.”
- To outsiders, this contrast looks like proof that the problem lies with the scapegoat, not the parent.
This Makes It So Much Harder for the Scapegoat
- Triangulation: The narcissist uses the golden child as a shield and a validator. It’s no longer just “the parent’s word against the scapegoat’s”—it’s two voices against one.
- Credibility Trap: Outsiders think, “If even the sibling says the scapegoat is the problem, it must be true.”
- Double Betrayal: The scapegoat isn’t just abandoned by the parent—they’re also betrayed by their sibling, who could have been an ally but instead becomes an enforcer of the abuse.
- Self-Doubt Amplified: Growing up surrounded by people who reinforce the narcissist’s narrative makes it nearly impossible for the scapegoat to trust their own perception of reality.
The golden child doesn’t always act out of malice—although some of them are also covertly sadistic narcissists and enjoy seeing the pathologically healthy child suffer and break—many are manipulated, brainwashed, and dependent on the narcissist’s approval. But regardless of intent, their role deepens the scapegoat’s trauma and strengthens the narcissist’s mask to the outside world.
