49. Full-time carer for my mum in Australia. Self-teaching JS, Python & n8n using only free resources. Documenting the real journey — wins, fails, tips, no hype
G'day, I’m Ryz, 49, from regional Queensland. Full-time carer for my mum.
I’m teaching myself to code, starting with JavaScript through @TheOdinProject, then Python and n8n, using only free resources. Fitting it around caring duties.
I’ll be sharing the real journey: wins, fails, tips, no hype. Just staying honest and accountable.
Any encouragement along the way would be appreciated.
If you’re on a similar path, feel free to follow along.
@anuragc0des Day 74 and still showing up on a busy day is the actual skill, not the heap stuff. I'm caring for my mum full time, so I know how easy it'd be to just skip a day when life gets in the way. Respect for logging it anyway.
Kimi K3's weights dropped while people are racing frontier models against each other, building full apps from a single prompt.
Meanwhile I'm still double checking why my div won't sit where I told it to.
They're at the frontier. I'm sounding out CSS one property at a time.
Doesn't make me feel behind. Just feels like I'm building on a different floor of the same house.
Slow lane's fine by me.
@CodeWithZephyrr Following along mostly for the 'no tutorial copying' part, that's the bit I find hardest. I'm only a few weeks into Odin Project and still catching myself wanting to peek at solutions. 12 weeks self-directed is solid, congrats 😀
@himanshu_ji_y Family time and consistency both making the list instead of one eating the other, that's the actual hard part most people skip past. I'm doing this around full time caring for my mum so it's always a juggle, but the days I get both in are the ones that stick.
@kind_technology Really appreciate the encouragement, thanks for replying. Its an exciting journey on so many levels. Nice to connect with others on the same path too.
@OThochukwu@jon_d_doe Can vouch for that, I am a few days into The Odin Project myself, self-taught with no budget, and the free + community part is exactly why I picked it over other options.
@UdayBha31594484 I'm still a few days into HTML/CSS on The Odin Project, so 'completed JavaScript' sounds like a different planet right now. Congrats on finishing the weather app
@craneoh4 I have just started my coding journey, doing the basics first via The Odin Project, but looking forward to getting to python. Wishing you well with producing your AI agent 😀
