Total NFT market capitalization fell from around $9B in early 2025 to just over $2.7B in 2026. The market is forcing a rethink.

Marketplaces feel it first.

🐳 @opensea , long seen as the default NFT hub, announced a shift away from being just an “NFT marketplace.”

Others are pivoting even harder. @the_x2y2 announced it would shut down its NFT marketplace and move into AI. @rarible admitted its earlier incentive models weren’t sustainable and introduced a new approach focused on active traders.

The signal is obvious: new business models are needed.
