Things may come up along the way which encourage you to change your course, but at least you’ve got a loose strategy rather than winging it.
That strategy creates progress, even if it’s not always straights it’s direction for you to learn as you go.
It is often not more variety you need to see an improvement in training, or to keep your interest in the gym.
But the staple things done well with a roadmap of where it’s taking you.
These points aren’t to say you shouldn’t be walking more or not paying attention to your nutrition.
But instead to highlight that sometimes when you think you just ‘need to do more’ or ‘be more perfect’ it could actually be taking you further away from where you want to get to…
They’re like that teacher you disliked at school because they seemed unjust and didn’t really care.
Look for a coach that helps guide you to trust your own judgement when it comes to your body.
Not one who’s just doing it to get a transformation picture out of you at the end.
I caught up with a client today after a few months working together.
She said one thing she’s gained so far is the ability to trust her own judgement.
When I asked her to tell me more she said this…
If your coach…
• makes you feel like you’re in trouble
• makes you feel like your schedule is merely a box ticking exercise to get a gold sticker
• lacks empathy when you need it most
They’re not coaching…
And often the challenge isn’t running down to the beach, bucket in your hand but no clue in your head.
But instead, getting curious about how to develop, grow and execute to your fullest potential, with the right plan in the first place.
Have you ever tried building a sandcastle at high tide?
You make some progress, but ultimately the waves keep on coming to wash it away.
If you’re the type of person who constantly pushes your training to the limit, you might be this silly sod trying to build sandcastles.
If you spend time learning ‘sandcastle making 101,’ you’ll learn the perfect how, what, when and where.
The same blueprint (but with less sand in your pants,) exists for your fitness.
