Slams Government’s ‘Shameless Slumber’; Demands Swift Resolution
J&K Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara, Sajad Lone, visited the office of the Chief Engineer PHE early this morning to stand with protesting Kashmiri contractors demanding the release of their long-pending payments.

Expressing solidarity, Lone condemned the government's indifference, criticizing officials for ignoring the financial distress of those who have tirelessly executed public projects.

“The fact that Kashmiri contractors are forced to stage an overnight sit-in outside the Chief Engineer PHE’s office for their rightful dues exposes the government’s deep-rooted apathy. Their priorities clearly lie elsewhere,” Lone stated.

He rebuked officials for their inaction, calling out their insensitivity. “The government is in a shameless slumber. Not a single official had the courtesy to visit them while they spent the entire night outside the PHE office,” he said.

Taking aim at politicians who once sought votes, Lone remarked, “Those who once begged for votes are now busy distributing shawls instead of addressing the genuine concerns of the people who placed their trust in them.”

He urged the government to act without delay. “This is not charity; this is their hard-earned money. Their grievances must be resolved immediately. I stand firmly with them in their just cause, no matter what,” he concluded.

We had always said that we will support anything which is even remotely related to restoration of Article 370, 35 A, restoration of statehood and unequivocal condemnation of the majoritarian onslaught against J and K, irrespective of who brings it on the floor of the house.

We supported PDP resolution which unfortunately was not put to vote. And today we supported a resolution put forward by NC. This is despite the fact that we had no prior notice that a resolution would be moved. Neither did we know till the last moment, the exact wording of the resolution.

We had already given a notice and sought an adjournment under rule 56, praying that all business of the house be set aside and instead discussion be initiated about the events of 5 August, 2019, its fallout on the inhabitants of J&K and federal structure. But we didn’t press for allowing it when the resolution was circulated this morning.

In the context of 5 August 2019 this assembly is the most powerful and relevant institution. It is the first elected assemblage of representatives from J and K post 2019. The content in the form of passed resolutions emanating from this Assembly in the context of 2019 represents the will of the people of J and K. And what it expresses about 5 August 2019, is a moral and political acceptance or rejection. It has legal connotations too.

I welcome and support this resolution. But this is the start not the end.

I would humbly state that the resolution writer has been too economical in the wording of the resolution, which could make it prone to differing interpretations.

This resolution will have to be supplemented by explicit terminology. We should be unambiguous in our disdain and contempt for 5 August 2019. And we should clearly state that the will of the people of J and k as embodied in the state assembly has clearly expressed that J and K should be reverted to Pre 5 August, 2019 status. We need to remove the ambiguities.

We have also submitted ammendments to the Motion of Thanks on LG's address for explicit codemnation of August 5 constitutional changes. There are a series of amendments that we have proposed. These amendments I believe can help remove the ambiguities. Hope that the amendments are supported by the House.

If I could draw your kind attention to an article in the @IndianExpress pertaining to big names who lost and who won in J and K. I fought from two places.

I won from Handwara and lost from Kupwara. You have a great journalist here who incidentally sounds more like the spokesperson of political party than a journalist — who has listed my name in the losers but apparently has derived sadistic pleasure in not including my name in the list of winners.

My problem is that anybody who is a friend and reads this article invariably texts me and expresses sympathy.

May I please humbly request to imbibe some sort of professionalism into these alleged journalists. It creates problems like the one I have now texting back to say that I have won.
