The Istanbul talks are probably the greatest political own goal in decades. Putin fell into his own trap and all what’s left is just nervous, political stuttering.

It is also a disaster for everyone advocating that negotiations are needed to end the war. This instance shows vividly that Putin has no interest in doing so. Every word coming out of this Russian KGB mouth is aimed to lie, delay and distract.

With no strategic goal secured by Russia in this war, a ceasefire would be anyway more of a problem for Putin. Despite Russian armies bleeding to death on the battlefield, it is preferable for Putin to continue the fighting, since it is keeping people in Russia in line.

Putin can only offer war. It is everything what’s left for him since the Russian army epically failed to take Kyiv, and war will continue for as long as Putin breathes. The Istanbul event exposes this once again.
