From 28 to 30 January 2026, the European Joint Theory Experiment Meeting on Membranes (EJTEMM) well take place in Ljubljana:

Topics are related to model and bio membranes, their composition and interactions with proteins & small molecules.
Welcome!
Last year, we investigated the adhesion of polymers on surfaces. By means of all together DFT, MD and Coarse Grain methods, we predict and analyze the failure mechanisms which occur when the polymer is pulled from the surface. More info, see our article https://t.co/iUSBcf2BCH
In our latest review, the simulation is discussed of the fluorescence, quantum yield, lifetime, and fluorescence anisotropy properties of the probes Laurdan, DPH and azobenzene. The challenges towards the future are typesetted, too: https://t.co/gA5tFVohLL
Just accepted: our latest work on Laurdan and its fluorescence properties in a DPPC lipid bilayer at different temperatures. The work is supported by experimental data, which prove the importance of knowledge about the two conformers. See: https://t.co/nK0REKUqIt
A nice example of a fruitful collaboration between experiment and theory is our latest article, focusing on time-resolved fluorescence phenomena of Laurdan. It proves that knowledge of the different conformers is important to interpret the observations:

To everybody who is going: enjoy the #EBSA meeting in Stockholm! Hopefully it will be as fruitful as the one in Vienna two years ago!
Here at home, we are looking forward to another important occasion this week: the birth of our daughter. .. ๐
Our new publication: Isomerization of Azobenzene in lipid membranes, studied by a quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics surface hopping scheme... Trans-to-cis is slow due to strong interaction with environment; cis-to-trans is sub-ps and governed by a pedal-like mechanism...
And at Christmas, our study on anti-oxidants in lipid bilayers got published :-). It was an interesting journey together with Nikolas in Greece and Markรฉta in Czech Republic! Thank you for your collaboration!

Departure to Germany... Looking forward to learn and discuss at #BiomembraneDays22@DimovaLab - Curious about the fluorescence and excited states of Laurdan in larger vesicles ๐
@caco3cz You are indeed missed out here... We have already seen the poster of your collaborator, great continuation of the job! Good luck with the chicken pox...
It is 'bloody' hot here in Prague, the night was not the easiest one without airco... Nevertheless, thank you Hector Martinez-Seara and Lukasz Cwiklik for the invitation - and congratulations for a well organized European Joint Theory Experiment Meeting on Membranes (EJTEMM)!
@ThomasVanRiet2 Curious about the conclusions... Did the student population change? Experimentally oriented students, do they rather study physical engineering? Is the bachelor program too theoretical? ...
Saturday morning session at the CPiC meeting in Grenoble! Great to be together - and thanks for a cosy outside session (building closed ๐, but not unhappy๐)!
Yesterday the oral version was defended, today we sell the poster... while enjoying cosy Belgian national physics meetings (in the north as well as the south part of the country ๐). Please have a nice day, too ๐
