At the #BRICS2025 session on environment, #COP30 and Global Health, my three points to the leaders:
1. Health is the strongest argument for climate action. Healthy people can’t exist on a sick planet.
2. We have the tools to do something about it.
3. But we need new sources of funding to implement them.
I commend President @LulaOficial and the Brazil BRICS presidency for prioritising the #ClimateCrisis and health in this Summit.
The BRICS leaders’ have demonstrated their dedication to health in a strong #BRICS2025 declaration. My thanks to the Presidents, Prime Ministers and Foreign Minister for reaffirming:
- their support to @WHO, including financial;
- their commitment to the #PandemicAccord, including the negotiations for the Annex on Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing;
- their commitment to digital health and AI, healthy environments, to #EndTB and tackle antimicrobial resistance;
- their commitment to universal health coverage and primary health care;
- their commitment to disease prevention ahead of the #UNGA High-level meeting on noncommunicable diseases;
- their launch of the Partnership for the Elimination of Socially Determined Diseases;
- their commitment to ending poverty, social inclusion and health equity.
Together, for #HealthForAll!
My key messages to the leaders at the #BRICS2025 Summit:
1. Challenges and Importance of Multilateralism — The adoption of the #PandemicAgreement is a clear indication that multilateralism is alive and well.
2. Cuts to Official Development Assistance — Moving forward, it is essential for countries to mobilize domestic resources and promote self-reliance to achieve #HealthForAll.
3. AI and Other Digital Tools — The future of health services is digital, so investing in AI and other digital tools is vital. It is crucial that these tools are used safely, ethically, and equitably.
By working together through multilateralism, we can create a healthier, safer, and fairer world.
Pleased to renew the @WHO-@_AfricanUnion Memorandum of Understanding with my sister @amma_twumamoah, Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development.
This renewed agreement comes at a critical time, as cuts to bilateral aid imperil the health of millions in Africa. It reflects our determination to translate our partnership into tangible results for the people of Africa, and support countries to leave behind the era of aid dependency and transition to sustainable self-reliance.
Together, for #HealthForAll. #WHA78
7 in 10 countries report health service disruptions as a result of sudden suspensions in foreign aid for health.
For many years, @WHO has been working with countries to transition away from aid dependency to sustainable self-reliance. We are now supporting them to accelerate that transition.
.@WHO Member States made history in Geneva today by reaching consensus on a proposed #PandemicAccord: https://t.co/l7Cia2Bcu3
I thank national negotiators for their foresight, commitment and tireless work. Gratitude as well to civil society partners. We look forward to #WHA78 where countries will consider the agreement for final adoption.
It’s always great to be back in London to meet with friends and colleagues committed to #HealthForAll.
My deep gratitude to the 🇬🇧 government for their continued partnership with @WHO.
Thank you, @UNReliefChief Tom Fletcher, for convening us at this critical time as millions of people depend on our service.
As you rightly said — together, we will remain committed in our mission to saving lives.

As part of its close cooperation with the @g20org South African presidency 🇿🇦, #UNESCO welcomed the Director-General of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation and South Africa's G20 Sherpa, @Zwandid at UNESCO today!
.@WHO expresses deep concern about the implications of the United States government’s immediate funding pause for #HIV programmes in low- and middle-income countries. These programmes provide access to life-saving HIV therapy to more than 30 million people worldwide.
This funding halt can put people living with HIV at immediate increased risk of illness and death and undermine efforts to prevent transmission in communities and countries.
Such measures, if prolonged, could lead to rises in new infections and deaths, reversing decades of progress and potentially taking the world back to the 1980s and 1990s when millions died of HIV every year globally, including many in the USA.
We call on the US government to enable additional exemptions to ensure the delivery of lifesaving HIV treatment and care: https://t.co/Ljq8foAoxz
🔴 BREAKING
The current tax system is backwards: companies like Amazon avoid tax while imposing poor (anti-union) labour conditions on their workers and amassing 'algorithmic rents', which they then use to influence governments' responses to global challenges. Instead, we need both redistributive measure ('taxes, taxes, taxes') AND pre-distributive policies that recognise labour and the public sector's role in value creation from the start.

Thinking of everyone in Mayotte affected by #CycloneChido and of those who may be affected as it moves further.

Dear Tulsi Bhai,
A healthy planet is a better planet. India is working actively in this sector. We are attaching great priority to integrating technology too. At the same time, we will strengthen global efforts in this regard.
@DrTedros
Hunger is a direct threat to the health and survival of the millions of people around the world.
@WHO welcomes the strong commitment by the #G20 leaders and is proud to join the new Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty. #HealthForAll
