I’ll never forget standing there and watching the tricolour rise.
This Independence Day, my hope is that every child in India has the right and opportunity to play.
Because play is joy. Play is freedom. And every child deserves both. 🇮🇳
You ask @Abhinav_Bindra and you will know he looks at the Olympic gold medal won on this day in 2008 as just one step in his journey. May be that’s what makes him who he is- one of the greatest that we have ever produced in this country.
For the record Abhinav shot at 10.8 in his final shot. I once asked Morad Ali Khan, a very distinguished shooter in his own right and one of our best, as to what does it take to shoot a 10.8 in the final shot?
Khan said to me that if you are going up a 10 storey building, run up the stairs to the 10th floor and without taking a break for even a minute take aim and shoot. If you hit bulls eye, it kind of comes close to a 10.8.
Abhinav hit it in his last shot in an Olympic final.
Legend in every sense. @RevSportzGlobal
In gymnastics, perfection is a perfect 10. But in shooting, 10 is just the starting point.
If you hit it absolutely perfectly, your entire shot will fit within the eye of the target. That gives you a score of 10.9. A 10.8 is .5 mm from perfection, literally the distance between the dot and the 5 on this post or the width of 3 human hairs.
Exactly 18 years ago, tied on first place with Henri Hakkinen, @Abhinav_Bindra hit a 10.8 with his last shot to win the India's first ever individual Olympic Gold.
Changed Indian sport!
ON THIS DAY, HISTORY WAS CREATED! 🇮🇳🥹
Abhinav Bindra became India’s first-ever individual Olympic champion! 🥇
He won GOLD Medal in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle at the Beijing 2008 Olympics!
I have never considered myself a political person. But I do believe that some issues belong to all of us, regardless of where we stand. Education is one of them.
The measure of a nation is found not only in its economy or its achievements, but in the opportunities it creates for its young people. An education system that inspires confidence, rewards merit and nurtures curiosity is one of a nation’s greatest strengths.
I hope we can all unite and work together to continually strengthen our education system, so that it remains a source of opportunity, innovation and hope for generations to come.
Olympic Day always reminds me why sport matters.
It brings people together, gives young people hope, and teaches us to keep striving not just to win, but to become better.
Happy Olympic Day!!
A Very good step by the ICC.
Supporting women cricketers through pregnancy and their return to play is the right thing to do, and an important part of building a truly athlete-centred sport.
Compliments to @JayShah and the @ICC for taking this forward.

Heartbroken to hear about Jaspal Rana’s passing.
Jaspal was my teammate, and in many ways, part of a generation that helped shape Indian shooting. He was intense, gifted, and carried the pride of the country every time he stepped onto the range.
This is a huge loss for our sport. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, students and everyone whose life he touched.
Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Raja Randhir Singh ji.
He lived a life devoted to sport as an Olympian, as a sports administrator, and as someone who contributed immensely to Indian and World sport.
His legacy will remain an important part of our sporting history.
My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
Not every inspiring sporting story ends with a trophy. Over the last few days, Lakshya Sen has shown India what courage, resilience and belief truly look like. His run to another All England final, through extraordinary wins and immense physical pain, has been about far more than a result. He has reminded young India that greatness lies not only in winning, but in the honesty of effort, the dignity of the fight and the strength to keep believing. I am Proud of you, @lakshya_sen . Very, very proud.
As I complete my term on the IOC Athletes’ Commission, my heart is filled with gratitude.
Serving athletes from across the world has been one of the most meaningful chapters of my journey in sport. To be entrusted with their voices, their concerns, their hopes and their dreams is a responsibility I have never taken lightly. Every conversation, every decision, every moment at the table was guided by one simple belief that athletes must always remain at the centre of the Olympic Movement.
I have had the privilege of working alongside extraordinary colleagues who care deeply about sport and about people. Together we have tried to strengthen pathways for athlete representation and ensure that the voice of the athlete is not only heard but respected.
I leave this role with deep pride in what we have built and with optimism for what lies ahead. The future of athlete representation is strong because it is driven by courageous, thoughtful and passionate individuals who believe in something larger than themselves.
Though this chapter closes, my commitment does not. I will continue to serve the sporting community with the same dedication and conviction, always striving to give back to the movement that has given me so much.
To every athlete who placed their trust in us, thank you. It has truly been an honour.

A pleasure meeting OLY Abhinav Bindra in Milan today. We discussed strengthening India’s high-performance pathways, athlete welfare, and our shared vision of building a robust sporting ecosystem that empowers the next generation of champions.
Together, committed to excellence.
Emma, concluding our terms together makes me reflect on how fortunate I have been to serve alongside you. Your commitment to athlete voice and representation has shaped this Commission in profound ways. Thank you for your leadership and example. @ELaaksonen3
Four students and two teachers from Odisha government schools under the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) visited the Headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Switzerland from 11–16 February, with support from the Government of Odisha, the School & Mass Education Department, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust.
They explored the Olympic Museum and the IOC Headquarters in Lausanne and proudly represented Odisha on a global platform.
Upon their return, Smt. Ananya Das, SPD, OSEPA, congratulated the delegates as they shared their learnings.

A pleasure to meet Olympic gold medallist and national icon Shri @Abhinav_Bindra.
Fruitful conversations on nurturing sporting excellence at the school level. Also, discussed ways we can utilise his expertise for designing sports-based curriculum, imparting sports-integrated learning, promoting mental wellness and adopting fitness as a lifelong attitude.
