🎓 Major Milestone Alert! I successfully defended my PhD thesis yesterday. It was an extraordinary journey—a true celebration of science, research, and the spirit of education. (1/n)

And.. it's a wrap !!
Meet the newly minted Dr Saket Shrotri @saaaakeeeet from @TrEE_Lab
An @iiserbhopal student from BSMS to PhD. He is looking for post docs. You are welcome!
It's a moment of joy for me, but the empty nest syndrome is going to hit us soon!

I have my own experience.
Same paper, different affiliations.
With my PhD affiliation (UK): 3–4 submissions, no desk rejections.
With my current affiliation (Indonesia) multiple desk rejections, even from lower-ranked journals.
Finally manage to publish it, after 12 attempts.
Get ready for Prime Minister Research Fellowships

Today, the UN family mourns the loss of Dr. Jane Goodall.
The scientist, conservationist and UN Messenger of Peace worked tirelessly for our planet and all its inhabitants, leaving an extraordinary legacy for humanity and nature.
@saaaakeeeet@vinita_gowda@sukhrajkaur_13@DhargalkarRahul@iiserbhopal Bottom line:
Even in highly seasonal habitats, synchrony is rare! Except for the mass-flowering species that dominate the landscape.
This work sets the stage for further long-term phenology & pollination studies in India’s fragile lateritic plateaus ecosystem.
@saaaakeeeet@vinita_gowda@sukhrajkaur_13@DhargalkarRahul@iiserbhopal 💧Flowering strongly linked to water availability & rainfall patterns (including lag effects).
🐝 Plant–pollinator networks shifted with flowering peaks, highlighting dynamic interactions in this short but intense season.
@saaaakeeeet@vinita_gowda@sukhrajkaur_13@DhargalkarRahul@iiserbhopal We found that:
🌸Overall, flowering was surprisingly asynchronous—likely due to competition for pollinators.
💐But ~30% of species showed mass flowering, driving the breathtaking “super bloom” landscapes Kaas is famous for.
@saaaakeeeet@vinita_gowda@sukhrajkaur_13@DhargalkarRahul@iiserbhopal We asked:
🌼Do plants in this seasonal sky-island community flower in synchrony?
🐝Does the plant-pollinator network remain stable across the flowering season?
We developed 2 new synchrony indices to capture synchrony in time & abundance, and observed natural pollinator visits.
🚨🚨🚨PUBLICATION ALERT🚨🚨🚨
Thrilled to share our new paper in Biotropica! 🌸🌧️
We studied flowering phenology of 76 herbaceous species on the Kaas plateau in Western Ghats, India over 3 years.

Yesterday was a very dark and dreadful day. Much strength to all who have lost their loved ones.. this is not a small number and with experienced crew and pilots, this tragedy is really not easy to get over.
My thoughts with all who are flying today. Its not going to be easy...😭
The blog aims to provide Malayalam translations of publications (mostly abstracts) and also introduce ecological and evolutionary concepts in Malayalam to school kids. It's still a work in progress, and we will be building on this, and it is officially launching on Earth Day 🌏
Also on 🌎 Day..
Two of my amazing @TrEE_Lab students launched #ScienceOnBananaLeaf
a Malayalam science blog! ❤️👏🏾
Great job..@xavier_aleena and @rhuthuparna
And I am sure this is just the beginning for many more regional science talks...

Governments spend billions on politics, ads, and vanity projects.
But funding to research India’s ancient past? Almost nonexistent.
🚀 We have ISRO, but no serious funding for archaeology.
🛸 We dream of space, but ignore 10,000-year-old paintings in our own forests.
It’s absurd.

But here’s the problem—
We aren’t funding this research.
We are the oldest civilization on Earth. These petroglyphs could:
🔹 Rewrite history books
🔹 Reveal our ancestors’ knowledge
🔹 Tell us about ancient migrations & lost civilizations
Yet, we’re ignoring them.
