A lot of discussion has been ongoing for the past few days regarding the upcoming web series "Firqa e Ishaq," where a Sunni boy falls for a Shia girl, and they start attending Juloos and Majalis together. Here, most people are concerned about the Shia-Sunni marriages, but I believe the real issue isn't Shia-Sunni Nikkah, as they have existed for a long time, and many of us have relatives from different sects. What I see as the real problem is the choice of such a sensitive topic to gain attention from the audience - In this name of sect (Firqa) we have witnessed how many people have been killed in Pakistan. Another concern is that they filmed during the Muharram Juloos procession,where Arslan and Hiba sharing dates on Sabeel e Hussain, which is clearly a mockery of religious rituals.
These liberal directors in the Pakistani showbiz industry often engage in such practices. We've seen this in Shoaib Mansoor's 2011 movie "Bol," where the setting was in Hira Mandi (a famous prostitution colony in Lahore), and a pimp was taking an oath of Imam Aliع from his customers which is highly disrespectful.
Finally, for those who believe that such stories promote harmony between Shia and Sunni, it should be noted that no one's religious beliefs can be shaped by stage dramas and web series; we already have the Quran and Sunnah and Ahlulbaitع for guidance.
Regulatory authorities should take action on this matter before it sparks another controversy in the country.
