A subaltern’s appraisal of 1971 war
I was posted to erstwhile East Pakistan soon after passing out from PMA in Nov 71 and was placed under the command of legendary Maj Nadir Pervez khan SJ in Jessore Khulna sector. We were confronting with an army six times more in number. The strategy adopted by our war planners was to defend every inch of the border. Indians exploited the weak points of big gaps between troops deployment and succeeded in penetrating without much fight with tactical manoeuvres. The real war was fought in Khulna, Hilli and Feni sectors where pithed battles took place. The officers and men in these sectors fought bravely inflicting heavy losses to Indian forces. Instead of establishing defensive fortresses around Dacca, Rajshahi, Khulna and Chittagong which could have been defended for months, the strategy of linear deployment was adopted which failed. It was poor Generalship which resulted in surrender which could have been easily avoided. Classic violation of concentration of forces around major cities was the main cause of defeat. East Pakistan was lost not because the soldiers failed, but because strategy failed them.
The news of an Indian Air Force Tejas crashing during an aerobatic display at the Dubai Air Show is heartbreaking beyond words. To the grieving family of the fallen airman: we should offer our deepest and sincerest condolences.
What pains further is the disgraceful reaction of a few on our side of the border who choose mockery over empathy. This is not patriotism; this is moral illiteracy. One may question policies, decisions, even doctrines — but never the courage of an aviator doing his duty.
There are no nationalities in the moment an aircraft goes quiet. There is only loss, and a family left in shattered silence.
May the departed pilot find eternal blue skies beyond turbulence. May his family find strength where words fail.
And may we, on both sides, find the maturity to honour courage — not mock its cost.
@MahamFazal_ @AmeDoree963 US provides counter terrorism assistance on monthly basis to Kabul, a certain percentage of this US taxpayer money ends up in the form of support to TTP. Pakistan must convey to US that this funding which has kept this barbaric regime afloat must end
Munafiqeen , drenched in Assibyah, in bed with polythiests yet claim to ride moral high horse of being champions of Islam just by trying to deceive the world through religious outlook. Another fitna from Afghanistan just like Communism.
⚠️ Pakistan has finally closed Afghan Transit Trade, which used to cost us ~Rs 1 trillion yearly. That trade was vital for the Taliban revenue, supplies, tariffs and logistics that funded their rule and forces.
This move is a deadly strike at their cash, supply lines and economic grip it will further weaken an already fragile Taliban position and force them to see that Pakistan was their main lifeline.
Never mind the fact that Pashtun in Larger Peshawar valley region of KP and tribes of FATA do not want to defect to Afghanistan.
AFG has a problem reading the room on that.
And,herein, lies a major problem for ours and our future generations vis a vis finding a way to coexist.
Pakistan does not covet any of Afghanistan's small vilayats. Not even the Wakhan strip.
Qandahar is not Pakistan's Gaza. Paktia is not Pakistan's West Bank.
On the other hand, the Afghan national consciousness can't, deep down,ACCEPT a truncated Afghanistan without KP & B'stan.
Ummah-ite or ungodly progressive nationalist, believes Durand Line is the LAWFUL BORDER.
Like Akhand Bharat, Loy Afghanistan, in the incomplete without B'stan and KP —"From the Oxus to the Indus".
Sure, Pakistan has interfered into the politics of AFG,but so has AFG.
I see that the new fashionable taunt is to label Pakistan "Zionist".
Which is funny, because between the two states,it's not Pakistan that has historically had expansionist ambition. For Pakistan Durand Line is THE BORDER.
Not for AFG. In their heart,no Afghan however godly..
If the TTP confirms Noor Wali Mehsud’s Kabul links whether by admission or by exposure it only cements Pakistan’s case. Do or don’t, we win: diplomatic leverage, regional isolation for enablers, and legal pressure follow.
According to Afghans, civilians were living in those Taliban, Al-Qaeda & ISIS bases that Pakistan destroyed.
- No wonder why Indians and Afghans always try to gain sympathy by lying 🤣🤡
Wouldn’t be surprised if Afghan ministers soon claim they shot down Pakistani jets — just like the Indian Air Force chief did months after the 6-0 humiliation, suddenly making claims to fool his people.
High chances though, since both are habitual liars. 😂
Where in the Quran does it say to drag the bodies of killed Muslims.
Now you see why that bollywood Taliban production was fake, they don't capture people and keep them alive, they shoot like savages without self control.
"Zionists of South Asia".
1. Pak doesn't claim Jewish heritage, you do.
2. Pak doesn't claim your land, you claim Pak's.
3. Pak doesn't pretend to be victim, you do.
4. Pak didn't attack you, you did proxy war.
5. Pak doesn't believe in racial supremacy, you do.
Can go on.
Trump’s words confirm it. Pakistan held the upper hand, ready to strike with overwhelming force if unleashed.
US President once again reminded the world of India’s loss of seven aircraft in air combat, this time admitting that he personally restrained a powerful Pakistani offensive before the ceasefire took effect. He said it loud in front of the USA Ambassador to India.
Analysts had long indicated that Pakistan was fully prepared to escalate the conflict.
They struck our Frontier Corps in Spin Boldak; our brothers were martyred and their bodies desecrated. Those who call themselves an "Islamic Emirate" revealed their true face.
We did not respond with chaos or blind fury. We moved from restraint to decisive action, launching precision strikes on high value targets in Kabul and Kandahar. Reports say Mawlawi Abdul Haq Wasiq was neutralised and the Taliban sought a ceasefire.
Hear this, Kabul and New Delhi: wage irregular attacks against us and you will face swift, certain, calibrated retribution on our terms.
@shoaibhanifi Just like 2001, when Taliban threw Afghanistan under the bus to protect OBL, now they are again pushing the region into fire to protect TTP. Is TTP that valuable, they have blood of 70,000 innocent Pakistanis on their hand 2/2
@shoaibhanifi For three years, Pakistan bled due to TTP attacks which originated from Afghanistan, time & again Kabul was requested. No country including yours will tolerate casualty rate which we faced in last 3 years due to TTP operating from Afghanistan. Pakistan had a right to hit TTP 1/2
