So far this year, “government” and “healthcare” (which is largely govt funded) are the two fastest growing job categories. Combined, they equal 114,450/month, which is 47% of job gains.
Excluding them, job growth is just 117,600/month in 2023.
For comparison, 2013-15, job growth (excluding healthcare and government) averaged 194,100/month.
So, job numbers have been artificially boosted by government spending.

The chart below shows government and healthcare have added 47% of all jobs in the past year, while the 10-year average is just 17.9%.
