The situation remains unchanged, and almost no one seems concerned. I am sure that if there were oil involved, many countries would suddenly care about these women’s rights, using them as an excuse to justify intervention. The silence is shameful.
I’ll be in Fukuoka this week (June 1–3), visiting Kyushu University and giving a talk.
Happy to meet and chat about AI, the philosophy of AI, or anything else interesting.
Send me a message if you’d like to meet.
Piety limited by borders can become hypocrisy. A nation cannot call itself moral while protecting dignity at home and destroying innocent lives abroad. True justice does not stop at the border.
I spent a day replacing Slack with Mattermost , and it feels like a good choice. Free, open source, self-hostable, and no per-user pricing :))Just started using it, but so far it really feels like what matters most.
Measuring an academic’s credibility by Google Scholar metrics is like using a noisy sensor: the signal is there, but the noise-to-signal ratio is far too high to trust on its own.
Midnight in Nagoya 🌙
The air feels soft tonight, the kind that makes you slow down and stay a little longer. Hard to go back inside when the city feels this beautiful.
@josephseering KAIST is great for research, but faculty hiring in many Asian universities often favors prestige and big-name institutions. Even highly qualified candidates can face a very different situation otherwise. The US and Europe are quite different.
I’ll be in Nagoya this week, May 20–21, visiting Toyota Technological Institute and giving a talk.
Happy to meet and chat about AI, computer vision, ML, trustworthy AI, and the future of AI.
@bendantian Sure, it was a big problem. I asked several people about it, but instead of explaining the paper, they said they were only proxies and did not really know the details. In the session where I was serving as chair, it was obvious how serious the problem was. .
Great time in Barcelona at ICASSP 2026 — presenting our work on zero-shot anomaly detection, chairing two sessions, reconnecting with old colleagues, meeting great new people, and visiting the Barcelona Supercomputing Center! @ICASSp
