AXIS Burgundy Forex Card

I usually lock all my cards when I’m not travelling internationally to avoid any fraudulent transactions.

Similarly, I had locked my Burgundy Forex Card.

However, when I tried unlocking it through the website over the last two days, it kept showing “successfully unlocked”, while the card status remained locked.

Today, customer care informed me that the card was locked due to some compliance activity (which even the executive wasn’t aware of) and could only be unlocked by calling customer care.

So, if you’ve locked your Burgundy Forex Card, do check and unlock it at least a few days before your international travel to avoid any last-minute surprises.

Do you feel guilty paying ₹300 extra during cab surge pricing?

I used to. Then I found a rule that ended it.

It's called the 0.01% rule, from Nick Maggiulli's book The Wealth Ladder.

Take your net worth. Multiply by 0.01%. That's the amount you shouldn't even think twice about.

Net worth of ₹10 lakh, that's ₹100. Below that, don't debate it.

The rule scales into a full ladder.

Level 1. Paycheck to paycheck. Net worth under ₹10L. You're conscious of every rupee you spend.

Level 2. Grocery freedom. ₹10L-99L. You buy what you want at the grocery store without worrying.

Level 3. Restaurant freedom. ₹1Cr-9.9Cr. You eat what you want at restaurants.

Level 4. Travel freedom. ₹10Cr-99Cr. You travel when and where you want.

Level 5. House freedom. ₹100Cr-999Cr. You can afford your dream home with little impact on your finances.

Level 6. Impact freedom. ₹1,000Cr+. You can use money to have a profound impact on others, buying businesses, large scale philanthropy.

One thing complicates this for most of us. Does your house count toward that net worth number?

Maggiulli's own chart has used the label liquid net worth. It's never fully spelled out.

Real estate alone is roughly half of household assets for the average Indian family. That's a lot of net worth you can't spend on a cab.

I'd run this rule on liquid net worth only. Your home doesn't clear surge pricing.

🚨 Airtel International Roaming LOOT by Airtel Postpaid : The cheapest package for postpaid connections starts at ₹3K!

Since I didn't want to miss any bank "confirmation calls" during my recent short Singapore trip, I needed to keep our numbers active. But ₹3K per number is crazy, so I didn't activate any roaming package on either my number or my wife's and saved ₹6K + GST.

For data, I got a free Pelago eSIM with 2GB. Even after our trip, it still had more than 1GB left!

You can keep calls and SMS active on your original Indian SIM while routing mobile data through a travel eSIM. This gives you the best of both worlds.

The only catch is that incoming calls are charged at exorbitant rates. I received five bank confirmation calls across both numbers and was charged around ₹100 per call. I rejected all other personal calls and called back via WhatsApp using the eSIM data. So total 500/- damage for whole trip vs 6000/- for roaming package
