Many of my clients have received these vague refund hold messages today. It comes across more like a threat than a clarification asking taxpayers to revise returns without clearly stating any discrepancy.
This approach seriously impacts trust. When compliant taxpayers and salaried clients are treated this way, the system risks losing its credibility and integrity.
Transparency, not intimidation, should drive compliance.
Taxpayers are increasingly receiving automated messages saying their income tax refunds are โon holdโ under risk management framework, even after filing returns correctly.
Instead of going after large-scale tax evasion, the system seems to be targeting small and compliant taxpayers for routine refund claims.
Refunds are taxpayersโ own hard-earned money.
Such messages create unnecessary pressure and anxiety close to revision deadlines.
There has to be a better balance between enforcement and fairness.
