Hoping to spread Awareness for Social Anxiety Disorder. 33 year old Social Anxiety sufferer for 20 years. I left this account 5 years ago but want to revive it!
@VeryShyCanadian No one who has actual social anxiety wants it. But saying you hate it or that you hate yourself, fuels the anxiety. I try to accept it, while working towards diminishing it.
@Flattuss In the moment, literally tell your racing thoughts to “stop” and then find a distraction if possible. Afterwards, don’t dwell on how you felt during the attack. Anxiety is a bully that is fueled by you giving it attention
@JYTan6 Anxiety lies to us and makes us think people have a problem with us. Maybe try to talk to just one or two people who you care about. Start small. Tell them how you feel. If they still have a problem with you, then they aren’t worth your time.
@JYTan6 Don’t beat yourself up! Take small steps to overcome your anxiety, and accept yourself for who you are. And if people have a problem with you, that is their problem, not yours.
@zaiderrr @ltsDusk Actual social anxiety is a disorder that makes it extremely difficult to interact with people. Avoiding interaction makes it worse, and too much interaction makes it worse. It’s a lot more delicate than you are making it out to be.
@zaiderrr Anxiety and depression are disorders that cause you to view yourself as a victim and take away your control. Treating these very real disorders properly will help you gain control. You called anxiety and depression bullshit and then literally described what they do to people.
@Agony Accept it. Don’t fight it with anger or self-pity. Take deep breaths. Ignore negative thoughts. See it for what it is, an irrational thought that lies to you
Social Anxiety Disorder stems from being brainwashed as a child. You were somehow taught to believe you are living in a hostile world, and it has stayed with you. You view social interactions irrationally, and tend to avoid them. #socialanxiety
