Bilal ibn Rabah رضي الله عنه

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, Bilal رضي الله عنه could no longer bring himself to call the adhan. Whenever he was asked to give the adhan, he would say:

“My beloved companion has passed away.”

Later, when Ash-Sham was conquered and many of the Companions gathered with Umar ibn Al-Khattab رضي الله عنه, their longing to hear Bilal’s voice became overwhelming.

Abu Ubaydah رضي الله عنه said to him:

“Give the adhan, O Bilal. Today is a day of victory and conquest for the Muslims.”

Bilal رضي الله عنه stood and began:

“Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar…”

Those who had witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and heard Bilal give the adhan during his lifetime began to weep uncontrollably, overcome by longing for the Prophet ﷺ.

And when Bilal reached:

“Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah…”

the memories of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became too overwhelming, and the city was filled with tears.

No one like Muhammad ﷺ has ever been lost, and no one like him will ever be lost until the Day of Resurrection.
