A video going viral on social media has triggered serious concern across the country. In the video, several people claiming to be Indian nationals say they are stranded in the city/town of Abha in Saudi Arabia. According to the viral claims, 161 people from Basti district of Uttar Pradesh are among those affected. They allege that a private Saudi-based company lured them there with promises of employment, but they are now being forced to endure inhuman conditions, hunger, and exploitation.
In the video, the victims allege that the company has not only stopped paying wages but has also failed to provide even basic necessities such as food, drinking water, and proper accommodation. Under compulsion, they are being forced to work, and any attempt to protest is met with pressure and threats. Several workers say they neither have sufficient money nor full control over their passports and documents.
Most alarming is the claim that
neither the local authorities there are listening to them, nor is the company willing to take any responsibility.
This double neglect has made the situation even more frightening. In the video, the stranded individuals openly say they are passing through a grave crisis of life and dignity.
Direct appeal to the Prime Minister of India
In the viral video, the affected Indians are seen making a direct appeal to the Prime Minister of India and the Government of India for immediate intervention and their safe return home.
