As natural grass farmers of the state of Washington and other concerned citizens, we are asking the public to say NO to fake, plastic turf. #KeepItReal
“Natural grass cools the environment while artificial turf retains heat and has been found to be up to 40%-70% hotter than natural grass.
This can lead to dangerous playing conditions for users of any age.”
"Artificial turf fields have become an expensive bandage for field mismanagement. Too often, municipalities invest in products instead of people, installing synthetic carpets rather than hiring trained sports field managers to properly maintain natural grass. But the long-term math is clear. Over its full life cycle, an artificial turf field typically costs at least twice as much as a well-managed grass field." https://t.co/JlQkLEc9F0
"I like to compare synthetic turf to a bad relationship . . . It gets dangerously hot, it’s toxic to everyone around me, it’s unsustainable . . . and it’s really hard to get rid of.” — Diana E. Conway, President, Safe Healthy Playing Fields, Inc. https://t.co/xVSV3WaQuH
Get off the grass!
The artificial turf at Gillette Stadium has been ripped up and removed for the FIFA World Cup.
The new pitch—a blend of Kentucky bluegrass and perennial rye—is meticulously maintained at just 0.9 inches to meet FIFA’s exact standards.
Under the field, there
Discarded tyres are too toxic for landfill... but when ground-up into rubber crumb and used as infill in 3G artificial football pitches (20,000 on a single full size pitch), they suddenly become safe... but, please don't be fooled, they can never be safe, they're full of carcinogenic, mutagenic and endocrine disruptive chemicals... which will harm your children, especially academy goalkeepers, as they have more contact with the ground and the dust gets directly into their grazes as they dive around.
Isn't it ridiculous that those who control these industries, including our government and the sports stakeholder, don't care one bit about your children getting ill, losing a leg, or very sadly, dying? All they care about is the money... the many £Billions that they rake in. Your children don't matter!!!
Please DO NOT let your children anywhere near 3G pitches.
Please read the info in my tweets.

The only one of the 17 categories the Seahawks rated below a B+ was “Home Game Field.” Seahawks players rated Lumen Field’s artificial-grass surface as an F.

Why are elected officials allowing schools, stadiums, & homeowners to install artificial turf even though they know it has negative impacts on personal health & the environment?

A plastic turf field wears out after only 8ish years, each time generating a literal mountain of plastic waste.
There’s no evidence that any facility in the U.S. is recycling it at scale.
And many landfill operators won’t accept it.
Where does all this plastic waste go??
Worth saying again...#NFL championship season is here and we hope for work to be done in the off season. You have a chance to protect your players. You are hosting the World Cup. You are willing to #gograss for soccer. #keepitreal for our football heroes too! @NFLPA@NFL
Please don't replace turf with plastic grass. It:
🐝 Offers no food and shelter to wildlife
🌱 Has a high carbon footprint - while real grass captures carbon
⚠️ Wears out and ends up in landfill
🐬 Sheds microplastics which wash into rivers & the sea
💦 Worsens flooding
‼️ Amy Griffin’s Cancer List since May 2020
268 total athletes with cancer (football, lacrosse, baseball, soccer, etc.)
123 females, 145 males
Goalkeepers make up only about 10% of a soccer team…but of the 209 soccer players with cancer on this list, 60% are goalkeepers.

@UWAthletics Heartbreaking.💔
Another soccer goalie for Griffin’s list.
“15 years ago, [Longtime UW goalies coach Amy Griffin] identified what she believed was a trend that she couldn’t ignore in good conscience — young goalies being diagnosed with blood cancer.”

"The tire crumb often gets mixed with small pieces of colorful rubber from the top surface, looking like candy that small children may find irresistible. Children like to play with it, leaving a black residue on their hands." https://t.co/58wYev5lc8
