@jonathandavis78@RealDanODowd@Tesla That's a great idea! Tesla should launch their "self-driving" cars into orbit where they won't be a hazard to all the responsible road users here on Earth.
@MichaelSuede@RealDanODowd@Tesla@elonmusk No, but my eyeballs are connected to a brain. FSD's "AI" isn't anywhere near smart enough. Lidar helps compensate for insufficient intelligence.
@VictorBellum If FSD 14 still can't pass a school bus safely, @RealDanODowd
wins because @Tesla is inept.
If they fix the school bus problem in FSD 14, @RealDanODowd wins because @Tesla is admitting he was right all along.
The kids are getting older and we are exposing them to more current events.
Naturally, the discussion of politics came up.
On the way to school the question came up. โAre we republicans or democrats?โ
I told them every so often two circuses come to town to sell tickets. Whoever sells the most tickets gets to decide how things run in the town for a while.
In order to sell tickets they will try to align with our deepest core values and convince us that the other circus is actually attacking those.
And sometimes itโs true. But sometimes, a lot of times, they just want to sell tickets.
Once you buy a ticket, they will want you to sell tickets and it will feel like everyone that buys a ticket for the other circus is no longer your friend.
The kids will eventually discover that they often have more in common with one circus than the other because of their value system.
That does not mean they have to blindly accept everything in that tent.
Some performances are convincing. Others are sincere and essential but we need to remain skeptical and remember their goal of the ticket sales.
Sometimes the ring leaders are charming and intelligent and a lot of times we see the show and check to make sure we bought the right ticket. We might even sneak next door and realize itโs just as bad over there.
The most important thing is that we know we are not lifetime members of either circus and we canโt let the circuses ruin our town. A lot of our friends might go to the other circus. They are still our friends.
We are individuals with core values.
We should be free to respectfully talk about our value systems and beliefs to challenge ourselves and others. Thatโs not circus talk, thats talking about our town.
But above all, we must avoid joining the circusโ marketing machine. Because in the end, as the backstage crew knows, to them we are just product.
So for my family, I want to focus on discussing concepts and beliefs and how they shape where we live, not the circuses.
@TeslaInvest2032@RealDanODowd@DirtyTesLa A human would have stopped when he saw the flashing lights on the bus -- long before getting near the dummy...because that's the law.
This is not about driving skills. It's about following the most basic rules of the road.
@JustinBrady@RealDanODowd@DirtyTesLa Even if there were no dummy THE CAR BROKE THE LAW by passing the bus.
The dummy just demonstrates why we have the law. Your critique of the dummy's realism is irrelevant.
@AmericaUchoose@RealDanODowd Waymo has a working product today.
Tesla has years of broken promises regarding autonomy.
While what you say is technically true, I'm not holding my breath.
@John200MA@RealDanODowd I literally couldn't live with myself if every time I encountered "verifiable facts that didn't fit my chosen narrative" I mistook them for "hate".
Yes, in a 2024 ruling in Matsko v. Tesla (case 3:22-cv-05240), Tesla's lawyers argued it should have been obvious to the plaintiff that his car needed lidar for self-driving and lacked it, implying reasonable customers would know lidar is essential for true autonomy. This contrasts with Musk's public stance against lidar.
@RealDanODowd ๐ฅTo be fair, Ford got in trouble for knowing the Pinto was dangerous and covering it up. Perhaps Tesla can plead incompetence?๐ฅ

@merkle_eric@StanphylCap@RealDanODowd@NHTSAgov@FTC It falsely represents the product by giving consumers the impression that this exceptional case is typical. (Actual miles-between-interventions numbers are MUCH lower.)
That could still be defensible as "marketing" if this weren't a SAFETY CRITICAL PRODUCT.
