@ghosts_and_gays also the fact that she only reuploaded super soaker, her most popular one and the one that shows up in the top 3 most kudoed byler fics, but not her other less popular works says a lot as well
@eatthebutterfly also the plug in thing doesn't make sense to me like didn't the document say the text had to be copied directly from Claude for the artifacts to show up??
@biggiemacbyler didn't that document say that the claude artifact only showed up if the text was copy and pasted directly from Claude to ao3?? like she's genuinely just lying atp
if your response to THOUSANDS of ppl missing AI in a super popular fic is "i actually always thought it was bad so that makes a lot of sense" or "at least i know for sure x isnt using ai cause ai could never write that fic" i fear you might be approaching this all wrong 😭 we all need to get humbler abt this shit... NOT paranoid, bc that helps NO ONE, but def humbler
like, at this point, it's pretty safe to assume that we are all susceptible to missing ai use in fics, just like we're all susceptible to flagging ai use in fics that may not contain a single trace of it. and we can keep acting like, as long as we stay on top of all the tells, we'll always be able to discern its presence... but that's not necessarily the case anymore (at least not for every single instance)
it's disheartening, for sure! but if there's anything ALL of us can learn from this, it's that we need to stop holding on so tightly to our egos. we have to drop this attitude of "oh, i would never get fooled by ai bc ai is soulless & i've got a soul, so i can see right through it and, unlike others, i know good writing when i see it". cause all that's gonna do is make us more susceptible to being manipulated by it in the long term.
again, i'm not saying this bc i think becoming hyper paranoid abt this is the solution !!!!! it's rly rly not !!!!! but we at least need to get off our high horses & stop acting like we've got some kind of supernatural sixth-sense that makes us completely immune to this.
cause, at the end of the day, the sad truth of the matter is that a fanfic on ao3 is the safest place in which we could be getting fooled by ai. and, if even on that microscale level, we're incapable of embracing that maybe we're not "smart enough" to catch ai use every single time... come tomorrow, we're bound to receive a much uglier wake-up-call on a higher stakes context that has much bigger real-world consequences.
those are my two cents okay bye
