@drivewisebc@RobShaw_BC Some states have no wait period between a learners and a road test just like our class 4. If you can’t be a safe driver with a year as a learner then what is actually going on here? This legislation is good decision making and good for the economy.
@drivewisebc@RobShaw_BC Because we don’t pay for research in our province. If you want to look to research though you can look to the US and Johns Hopkins where public health does look at data. Due to restrictive incentives people wait until they don’t need to be in a graduated system to test.
If the conservatives really want to bring up road safety, let’s talk about how driving examiners are testing for Class 1 licenses under MELT and they themselves don’t have a class 1. @RobShaw_BC if we’re going to go all in on testing let’s tell the whole story.
The BCgov continues to do a stunningly poor job explaining its bill to eliminate 1 of the 2 road driving tests for new drivers.
In #bcleg committee, Conservatives ask if a driver who gets an N under new system can just not drive for more than a year and automatically get their full license w/out a second road test?
The answer is yes.
Conservatives ask: How does that improve road safety versus testing these drivers a second time?
Krieger says well at least they passed their first road test to get their N.
She says 25% of BC drivers stay in Novice license status, sometimes after failing their second test, she says.
Under changes, those ppl who would otherwise fail just get their full license automatically, because gov is eliminating the second test.
The rationale makes... no sense whatsoever.
@RobShaw_BC I’ve also never heard the conservatives complain about how the taxi lobby has drivers who purchased a license in a foreign country and in 90 days in BC qualify for a class 5 then get a class 4. Politicians need to do their homework. These arguments are ridiculous
My latest: In BC, Indigenous persons have a separate phone line to call about their driver licenses, and special road test routes to avoid “triggering” areas.
ICBC first asked about my deadline for this story, then ghosted me. 👻
@preta_6 I wrote the road to reconciliation paper that now sits on ICBC’s website outlining the harm done by segregated transportation systems. I’d be happy to speak with you if you’d like to reach out. My email is [email protected]
@Holden_Culotta@RobertKennedyJr RFK JR is going down in history as one of the greatest advocates and ambassadors for human health. His courage in truth telling deserves the highest award.
@RobShaw_BC Now ask how much the province transfers to First Nations Health Authority to cover patient travel because that’s not included in this figure. Then ask why people need rides …
@scoopercooper I’m not even sure how to comment other than I feel really naive right now. Where is the outrage from the Assembly of First Nations? Thank you @scoopercooper for your courage in holding the pen.
@cspotweet I worked on Northern Gateway and my understanding is the pipeline was not feasible on that route due to the mountains and zero chance it will be accepted by Indigenous communities.
@keithbaldrey can you ask when BC Paramedics will be vaccinated? My understanding is paramedics are transporting vented patients, limited air circulation etc. Thanks!
