Demand Number 1

-Gyanesh Kumar must resign within 48 hours. Initiate criminal proceedings against him. Answer who gave him the orders to steal votes.

Demand Number 2

-Put on hold all upcoming elections. Freeze SIR immediately. Roll back the voters list to January 2025. Constitute an independent inquiry commission that commands public confidence to probe all SIR related actions. Supreme Court which has much to answer for legalising Gyanesh Kumar’s illegalities must immediately order seizing of SIR related files and records and submission to Court.

Demand Number 3

Repeal the 2023 law on ECI appointments immediately. Draft a new law with active participation of civil society, an independent selection process that inspires public confidence.

If the resignation does not come through in 48 hours, we will launch a nationwide agitation and will end it only when all demands are fulfilled.

He pointed out that Delhi University has around 3 lakh students, but hostels are available for only about 4,000.

Why do students end up living in unauthorized buildings? Because there aren’t enough hostels.

Why isn’t the BJP govt building more hostels? Ask the government that question—the reporter had no answer.

I just opened Twitter and saw Satya Niketan trending. I'm from DU South Campus and have lived in Satya Niketan, so I opened it and saw that a building had collapsed with 40–50 students reportedly trapped inside.

For a few seconds, I genuinely couldnt understand the video. It looked like the PG I used to live in. My PG was literally just two buildings away from the one that collapsed. I was shaken. This is so shocking and scary. I just hope every single student gets out safely. 🙏

And this is a much bigger problem around DU.

Colleges keep increasing seats, but hostel facilities dont increase with them. Students end up paying insane rents for nearby PGs because nobody wants to travel hours every day.

PG owners keep building floor after floor in the greed for more rent, without caring about basic safety. Everything runs in black, rent is taken in cash and even my PG aunty used to take the rent and electricity bill only in cash.

There also needs to be some control on PG rents. When demand keeps rising and students have nowhere else to go, owners can charge whatever they want.

Students come to Delhi thinking DU is affordable, only to end up paying huge rents to live in potentially unsafe buildings.

There needs to be a serious crackdown on illegal construction, unsafe PGs and unreasonable rents around student areas. Students shouldnt have to risk their lives just to study at DU. 🙏

Entire streets are shut down. Traffic is gridlocked. Residents in the entire neighbourhood are effectively placed under house arrest.

Not once. Every single weekend. For over a month

Surely faith and consideration for everyone else can coexist?

If we’re invoking tradition, then perhaps follow the tradition. Bring the idol from the workshop to the pandal quietly, respectfully and efficiently. Save the glorious noise, dancing and celebration for immersion day, as it was always done.

Celebrating your faith is absolutely your right.

But repeatedly bringing an entire neighbourhood to a standstill cannot be a prerequisite for doing so.

There has to be a reasonable middle ground.
