Heading to Indianapolis on Wednesday, September 9, to hand-deliver a petition to Governor Mike Braun's office to protect Hoosiers, not Big Tech and Big Energy. Never thought I'd see the day I was allying with the Sierra Club, but here we are. NIPSCO's Schahfer coal plant was supposed to retire, but two of its coal units remain online to power a planned AWS data center called "Project Rise." Why should Hoosiers pay to keep aging coal plants online? The public deserves straight answers about who pays, who benefits, and why.

Today's Gospel (Mt 18:15-20) reminds us: love doesn't stay silent when someone we care about is going down the wrong path. Real love speaks the truth gently, privately, and for their good — not to condemn, but to win them back.

We are never alone. He is with us.

They keep telling us data centers are “good for the economy.”

But somehow they never mention the massive demands on our electricity, water, infrastructure, and taxpayers.

And when communities push back, we’re told not to believe our own eyes.

Enough. Stop taking the government’s talking points at face value.

If data centers are such a great deal for Americans, why do they have to sell us on them so hard?

This is Jack. He likes sunny decks and quiet afternoons, not living next to an industrial server farm that hums nonstop and drains local water and power.

Noise — Cooling systems run 24/7, creating a constant drone for nearby residents.

Water — These facilities can use hundreds of thousands of gallons a day from the same supply as our homes.

Power — A single large data center can draw as much electricity as tens of thousands of houses, straining the grid and raising rates.

Land — Massive, windowless industrial buildings, not what this land was meant for.

A lot of my land is overgrown with weeds and invasive trees despite years of trying to "get it under control." I've made peace with that. I just do what's in front of me.

Like this morning. Cleaning out the goat stalls. Not because the goats will thank me, they won't even notice, but because it's the responsibility I was given. Everything I have comes from God, and by His grace I'm able to do what needs to be done. For that, I'm thankful.
