After the match ended in a tie, India seemed very keen to take it to a Super Over.
At one end was Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the IPL sensation who had won almost every major batting award in this year’s IPL, earned a place in the national squad, and was regarded as one of the heroes of the tournament.
At the other end was Suryansh Shedge, another IPL performer who had impressed with his talent and was India’s best batter in today’s match, scoring 72 runs off 66 balls.
Meanwhile, this young Sri Lankan player is still only 19 years old. Despite having experienced bowlers available, including Mohamed Shiraz, who took three wickets today, our captain and team management placed their trust in this youngster.
Everyone believed he had the courage and composure to handle such pressure.
In the end, even Suryavanshi who has smashed sixes against some of the world’s most celebrated bowlers looked completely helpless against him. The youngster didn’t even allow the two IPL stars to score 10 runs in the Super Over.

One of the happiest days for Sri Lanka 🇱🇰🏏

A fun fact about Steve Smith and it has nothing to do with cricket:
In 2015, Steve Smith the test captain of Australia at the time had invested 100,000 $ and become a 10% investor in a company named Koala- a company dealing in furniture, mattresses, sofas etc.
Today in 2026, that company is worth over 300 million $ and Smith is estimated to earn around 30 million $. That is 29.9 million $ more from his 100,000 $ that he put in 10 years ago making more money than he has earned in his professional cricket career till date.😯
There is a lot of hurt all round. The fans devastated , disappointed , angry. The players are hurting badly too. I have been in similar dressing rooms. It’s not easy. But this responsibility comes with the turf. It’s a burden and a great privilege to represent your country and
Last quarter I rolled out Microsoft Copilot to 4,000 employees.
$30 per seat per month.
$1.4 million annually.
I called it "digital transformation."
The board loved that phrase.
They approved it in eleven minutes.
No one asked what it would actually do.
Including me.
I told everyone it would "10x productivity."
That's not a real number.
But it sounds like one.
HR asked how we'd measure the 10x.
I said we'd "leverage analytics dashboards."
They stopped asking.
Three months later I checked the usage reports.
47 people had opened it.
12 had used it more than once.
One of them was me.
I used it to summarize an email I could have read in 30 seconds.
It took 45 seconds.
Plus the time it took to fix the hallucinations.
But I called it a "pilot success."
Success means the pilot didn't visibly fail.
The CFO asked about ROI.
I showed him a graph.
The graph went up and to the right.
It measured "AI enablement."
I made that metric up.
He nodded approvingly.
We're "AI-enabled" now.
I don't know what that means.
But it's in our investor deck.
A senior developer asked why we didn't use Claude or ChatGPT.
I said we needed "enterprise-grade security."
He asked what that meant.
I said "compliance."
He asked which compliance.
I said "all of them."
He looked skeptical.
I scheduled him for a "career development conversation."
He stopped asking questions.
Microsoft sent a case study team.
They wanted to feature us as a success story.
I told them we "saved 40,000 hours."
I calculated that number by multiplying employees by a number I made up.
They didn't verify it.
They never do.
Now we're on Microsoft's website.
"Global enterprise achieves 40,000 hours of productivity gains with Copilot."
The CEO shared it on LinkedIn.
He got 3,000 likes.
He's never used Copilot.
None of the executives have.
We have an exemption.
"Strategic focus requires minimal digital distraction."
I wrote that policy.
The licenses renew next month.
I'm requesting an expansion.
5,000 more seats.
We haven't used the first 4,000.
But this time we'll "drive adoption."
Adoption means mandatory training.
Training means a 45-minute webinar no one watches.
But completion will be tracked.
Completion is a metric.
Metrics go in dashboards.
Dashboards go in board presentations.
Board presentations get me promoted.
I'll be SVP by Q3.
I still don't know what Copilot does.
But I know what it's for.
It's for showing we're "investing in AI."
Investment means spending.
Spending means commitment.
Commitment means we're serious about the future.
The future is whatever I say it is.
As long as the graph goes up and to the right.
I'm pleased to share that Australia is providing an additional $2.5m to support Sri Lanka’s response to Cyclone Ditwah, bringing our total assistance to $3.5m.
As close Indo-Pacific neighbours, we stand with Sri Lanka and are working with UN partners to reach those most affected.

A story of amazing strength and resilience from the entire team at Taru Villas Maia in Habarana. The property was underwater on the 27th, and now they are back up and running in less than 5 days!
This is Sri Lanka. Nothing will keep us down. We will always rise!
Zohran Mamdani has won the race to become the next mayor of New York City.
Mr Mamdani - who will be the first Muslim, first South Asian, and youngest person in a century to be elected as the famous city's mayor - used a victory speech to throw down the gauntlet to Donald Trump.
◾ The most international runs for Sri Lanka
◾ The most Test hundreds for Sri Lanka
◾ The most Test doubles for Sri Lanka
◾ The joint-fastest to 10,000 Test runs
◾ The most dismissals for a wicketkeeper in ODIs
◾ The most all-format runs in a calendar year in 2013
The records flow from his name just like the runs did. His cut, pull and the cover drive were a thing of beauty. After two runner-up medals at the World Cup, he went out on a high with the 2014 World T20 title.
A legend of the game. Happy birthday, Kumar Sangakkara 🎂

"My father has supported me unconditionally since I was a child. His only dream was for me to grow into a good player and represent Sri Lanka. I will make sure to carry that forward. There are still important matches left in the Asia Cup, and I intend to give my all for the team"
