Never drive with your windows open on muddy roads. Repeat, never. One small mistake and the whole car turned into a mud pool, and in this case the other person cannot be blamed.
But curious… how do you prefer driving, windows open for fresh air or closed for a cleaner ride?
If you are from a small town, then you will always find yourself in a position where you need to constantly choose between a career and family.
Those who had the privilege of being born and raised in a metropolitan city, however, cannot relate to this state of dilemma!
The truth is that if you want to achieve a certain degree of professional and monetary success, you need to move to cities with a sprawling business ecosystem and abundant employment opportunities.
Who doesn't want name, fame and money at the end of the day?
But if you hail from a Tier-3 town, it means achieving those dreams will come at the cost of leaving your family behind.
There may be exceptions and outliers who can turn around their lives from such towns, but that will not be the case for the majority.
Assuming you have the financial means to relocate your family with you to a Tier 1 city, you will soon run into a new hurdle -
Your parents, who grew up in a small town, will find it incredibly difficult to adjust to city life.
After you leave for the office, they are left to fend for themselves, often in isolation and loneliness.
This becomes unsustainable for those parents who have their social connections back in the Tier 3 town.
Eventually, they return to where they truly belong. And again, you are left to make a hard choice.
It's a loop which you sadly cannot escape. At every point, you will think and rethink your life's decisions.
We have limited time on Earth and even more limited time with our parents and immediate family members.
If we can create a good life for ourselves in the city, we will always wonder how life could have been different with the family by our side in our Tier 3 town.
And if you make the hard choice of being with your family in the small town, you will always regret how your life could have changed for the better if you had migrated to a city.
Some have found a temporary fix for it. They live in the city, send money home and splurge it on the family.
They have conceded that they cannot be physically present, but will still provide their loved ones with a good financial life. That is a consolation prize in some sense.
But there is always a profound fear lurking in the back of their minds.
What if they don't get to see their loved ones in their final moments? What if they fail to arrange flight tickets on time to be by the side of those who matter when they pass away?
Many like me live with this fear every single day and wonder how life could have been different if we were born in a big city.
