5 MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THE HOLY ROSARY
1. Only Catholics may pray it.
The prayers and the mysteries belong to the Gospel. Non-Catholics pray the Rosary, and some trace a conversion to it. What the Church asks of her own members is not a closed circle. It is a way of staying with Christ through Mary.
2. The Rosary is worship of Mary.
It is not. Adoration belongs to God alone. The Hail Mary asks for her intercession, as one believer asks another to pray. Pope St. John Paul II put the center in one line: “To recite the Rosary is nothing other than to contemplate with Mary the face of Christ.” The decades move through his Incarnation, public life, Passion, and glory. Mary leads the prayer. She does not replace him.
3. Jesus forbade it in Matthew 6: 7
He condemned empty phrases and the idea that God is moved by a pile of words. He did not condemn repetition itself. In the next verses he gives the Our Father, which the Church repeats every day. The Psalms repeat. In Gethsemane he prayed the same words more than once. The fault is a blank mind, not a repeated prayer. As Pope St. Paul VI put it, and John Paul II repeated: without contemplation, the Rosary is a body without a soul.
4. It is not biblical.
The Our Father is the prayer Christ taught in Matthew 6. The first half of the Hail Mary is Gabriel’s greeting in Luke 1:28 and Elizabeth’s in Luke 1:42. The Glory Be is praise of the Trinity. The mysteries are scenes from the Gospels. The Assumption and the Coronation come from the Church’s reading of Scripture and Tradition.
5. The beads are the point, or the prayer works only if every word is felt.
The beads are a counter and a help for the hands. The prayer is the meditation. A distracted decade still offered is not wasted. The remedy is not to quit. It is to name the mystery, pause, and begin again.
Morning prayer places the day under God’s guidance before its demands begins.
Night prayer returns the day to Him through gratitude, reflection, repentance, and trust. By beginning and ending each day in prayer, Catholics establish a steady rhythm of communion with God rather than turning to Him only in moments of need.
The Church recommends morning and evening prayer as daily practices that help nourish continual prayer.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Lord God,
as this day comes to its end,
I place it back into Your hands. I thank You for every gift You have given me today,
for the people who helped me,
for the strength You provided,
and for the quiet moments of Your presence. I ask for forgiveness for the times I failed to love You and others as I should.
Wash away my sins in Your mercy,
and help me to begin again with a pure heart. Into Your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.
Watch over me, and my loved ones, as we sleep,
guard us from all harm,
and let Your holy angels keep us safe through the night. May we rest in Your peace,
and rise tomorrow ready to serve You with renewed faith and love.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…

Saint Thérèse of Lisieux

The Miracle Prayer
Lord, Jesus, I come before You, just as I am.
I am sorry for my sins,
I repent of my sins,
please forgive me.
In Your name,
I forgive all others for what they have done against me.
I renounce Satan,
the evil spirits and all their works.
I give You my entire self.
Lord Jesus, now and forever,
I invite You into my life Jesus.
I accept You as my Lord and Saviour.
Heal me, change me,
strengthen me in body, soul, and spirit.
Come Lord Jesus,
cover me with Your precious blood,
and fill me with Your Holy Spirit,
I love You, Jesus.
I praise You, Jesus.
I thank You, Jesus.
I shall follow You every day of my life.
Amen.

María siempre conduce a Jesús.
No exige grandes conocimientos.
Cuenta a cuenta.
Misterio a misterio.

“Saint Therese of Lisieux and the Rosary”
Saint Thérèse of Lisieux had a deep love for the Blessed Virgin Mary and made the Rosary part of her daily prayer as a Carmelite. In her autobiography she admitted that she sometimes found the Rosary hard to pray with attention, yet she still offered it faithfully as a simple act of love. She trusted that even a distracted or imperfect Rosary, said with the heart of a child, was pleasing to Mary and drew her closer to Jesus.
Jacinta was deeply moved by the vision of Hell and the call to sacrifice for sinners:
Near the end of her life, she said (to Lúcia):
In a short time now I am going to heaven. You are to stay here and say that God wishes to establish in the world the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. … Tell everybody that God grants graces through the Immaculate Heart of Mary; that people are to ask her for them; and that the Heart of Jesus wants the Immaculate Heart of Mary to be venerated at his side. Tell them also to pray to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for peace, since God has entrusted it to her. Oh that I could put into the heart of everybody the flame that I feel burning within my breast and which makes me love so much the Heart of Jesus and the Heart of Mary.”
