Members are neither satisfied nor happy with one day extension and no words on TAR extension.

The fear and anger is real and it should be addressed timely.

Curious Case of Indian Taxation!!

A salaried employee came for ITR filing after the due date, as his mother was ill during later part of July.

Salary -8.93 Lacs
Standard Dedcution-0.50 Lacs
Home Loan Int- 2 lacs
80C Deduction-1.50 Lacs
Total Income - 4.93 Lacs

No TDS deducted as proofs of dedcution were submitted to employer.
Assessee was prepared to pay Late fee of Rs.1000

But since he is filing ITR after due date he has to file ITR under New Regime, cannot file the same in Old scheme
Consequences :-
Total Income - 8.43
Tax - 40872
Int - 4506
Late Fee - 5000
Total - 50380!!

Isn't it too harsh!!
From 0 Tax to Rs. 50380, Only due to the reason that he is filing ITR with a delay of 10 Days.
Punishment in form of Late fee of Rs. 1k/5K is fine but above consequence is brutal.

The #Budget2022 should mandate release of ITR forms & filing utilities by 1 April every year, in case of delay the due dates of filing tax returns shall be automatically extended by same no of days @nsitharaman
