Look, I try not to be a dick about it, but with 30+ programming languages under my belt and having released software for just about every platform still alive and many long dead - I make my points because I find the state of software development absolutely embarrassing.

Everyone focuses too much on labels and arguing X is great because it doesn’t Y, or X is bad because it does Y.

Rust, Zig, Kotlin, Swift - we are absolutely spoiled with languages that let us do whatever the hell we want, however we want.

Trying to water down or even go as far as insist doing certain things is bad because “it wasn’t designed for it” or “it’s bad practice”

There’s libraries that include C source files now because even though “you must never do that” these libraries have found advantages that outweigh the cons; it wasn’t what was intended to be done, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done.

Too few people actually take the time to learn the bare metal details of the language they use, and it’s worsened by so many libraries and languages either insisting “it’s different” when it generates the exact same binary code. Languages all have different names for the same thing because it helps understanding and prevents confusion when learning multiple languages.

The reality is most shit we deal with doesn’t actually exist at the end of the build pipeline. Most types aren’t real, most classes aren’t real, languages do magic to make our lives easier but you’re doing yourself a major disservice by not attempting to understand the world computers actually execute in.

You're fucked because you went the "safe route".

You played the best moves of the past in an attempt to be successful in the present.

The world is different now.

Only the most competitive will thrive now.

You aren't going to have a work-life balance anymore.

Your do-nothing job is going to be gone soon, made irrelevant as A.I. continues to develop and your company struggles to out-compete inflation.

Your company is either going to cut the fat or go under in the next 4 years.

Your pension funds you've been paying into aren't safe, they're getting ravaged by inflation as you read this right now.

You can't afford a house and are in crippling debt.

You were a pussy and you thought you'd be safe.

You thought one more vaccine and they'd leave you alone.

You thought Tate is crazy, he works too hard, he takes too many risks.

But don't you see now?

The world is different.

The "safe" life is not safe at all.

You avoided risk and here you are in the riskiest position of all.

And it's only going to get worse as the time runs out for you to get it through your thick skull.

Tate was right.

You need to get rich NOW.

You need to be apart of your own company, possess monstrous work ethic and have a pair of balls.

And there's only one place that will give you a genuine education on how to thrive in this modern world.
