Talent wise, the Portuguese team is not better than the French team (not to even talk of „head and shoulders“🤦♂️). For the sake of avoiding arguments, I’ll agree the midfield 3 + Mendes are better than their French counterparts. That’s just 4 players out of 11. France takes the remaining 7.
Maignan > Costa
Saliba > Dias
Upamecano > Veiga
Kounde > Cancelo
Dembele > Neto
Doue > Leao
Mbappe > Ronaldo
The case would have been different if Ronaldo, Cancelo, Dias and Leao were still in their prime.
@FabrizioRomano@huntersboot Every single Portuguese player should hang his head in shame. The champions league winners in the team should hang their whole body in shame. What a disastrous outing.
For the people saying it’s sarcasm, that would be a poor attempt at sarcasm. The statistic actually points to Paraguay being gentlemanly meaning a lot of people who didn’t watch the match would easily believe it.
In 10 years to come, even the people who watched the game would have forgotten the events but the post „gentlemanly“ would still remain.
On the day Messi and his lovers should be celebrating the ridiculous feat of scoring 20 WC goals, Cape Verde took center stage.
Outshine a god? Best be one.
@avecristusarg@FabrizioRomano@AppiahFosu1 Was cruel but wasn’t robbery. The snickometer showed the Croatian guy touched the ball. That made the offside call the right one.
These generalizations are getting too much. Anyone who expected South Africa and Congo to go past Canada and England respectively either didn’t watch the group stages or was being overly optimistic. Mentality wasn’t the reason the two teams lost. They played against superior opponents.
Again, based on the group stages and quality of players both teams had, Ivory Coast vs Norway was a game anybody could have won. Ivory coast lost to a team that matched them in ability.
Senegal on the other hand deserve every bit of criticism they’re getting. They were the top dogs on paper, showed it on the pitch for 80+ minutes, then lost concentration.
In conclusion, if you say the Senegalese team has a defeatist mentality, you may be right. But extending it to the other African teams is simply hasty generalization.
I was ruminating on why African teams lost out in the second...
At first, I said, lack of elite goal scorers, and ot been clinical enough
I used Ivory Coast, South Africa and DR Congo as an example
They will play well and do the job but waste all their chances, only to be punished later
After watching how Senegal crashed out yesterday, I said this is more than converting of chances but a defeatist mentality
Basically there are three things
• Profligacy
• Poor managerial ability
• Defeatist mentality
Africa must overcome these three things
The players are there, there is abundance of talent but there is a need to convert their psychology into winners
That needs to be improved upon
Round of 32
Round of 16
Quarter Final
Semifinal
All these are not achievements
Aim for the trophy
We qualified for the World Cup for the first time after 52 years.
We drew against Portugal. We won our first game against Uzbekistan and literally went toe to toe against England.
We made history, and for that, I am so proud of my boys.
CONGO TO THE WORLD AND BACK 🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩
