what most people don’t understand is,
corporate tech careers are built on solving business problems. the money follows impact.
cyber isn’t “harder” than everything else. it’s just more gatekept at entry level and requires constant learning + stamina. meanwhile, there are plenty of roles that are just as lucrative and often easier to break into: cloud, DevOps, systems, data, product, servicenow, QA automation, SRE/monitoring, technical program management, etc.
- cyber = reducing risk
- cloud/DevOps/SRE = keeping the business running
- data = improving decisions + revenue
- product/program roles = delivering outcomes
- enterprise tools (servicenow/salesforce/workday) = running operations at scale
the goal shouldn’t be “cyber or nothing.”
i always tell my clients that the goal should be to pick what you can actually become great at.
