A Ring doorbell owner installed it 3 years ago. He mounted it. He connected Wi-Fi. He downloaded the app.

Since then, he's used it for one thing: checking who's at the front door when the bell rings.

He also gets 47 motion alerts per day. Cars driving past. Neighbors walking their dogs. Tree branches swaying. Shadows moving across the porch at sunset. His phone buzzes so often that he turned off notifications entirely 6 months ago.

His Ring doorbell now records everything and alerts him about nothing. The worst of both worlds.

His neighbor a retired home security installer who spent 22 years designing commercial and residential surveillance systems watched him silence another notification during a barbecue and finally said:

"You know your doorbell has Motion Zones that eliminate every false alert, right? And Privacy Zones that black out your neighbor's yard from recordings?
