I have a new article out in Written Communication 41.3 titled "Gateways and Anchor Points: The Use of Frames to Amplify Marginalized Voices in Disability Policy Deliberations." 😁
Very proud of this one as it was a long time coming! Heartfelt thanks to Christine Brown and the folks at the Ohio Statewide Consortium for their help with this project!
Excited to announce the publication of my article "Academic Ableism and Students with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities: Rethinking Self-Advocacy as an Anti-Ableist Practice" in Critical Education's special issue on Ableism in the Academy:

It considers the ways ableist institutional logics in higher ed constrain student self-advocacy practices and argues for a reimagining of self-advocacy as a shared responsibility.
My institution is moving to #onlinecourses. In preparation, my students had the following suggestions. Not every strategy is going to work for every class, but here goes. 100 percent of credit goes to my Disability Memoir students (for context, we're a 15 person class):

Assessment might be a problem-posing process that continually attends to questions like: “Do I understand you enough? Am I making you suffer? Please help me to read your languaging properly.” —@AsaoBInoue #4C19
Why does National Geographic continue this framing of "difficult to look at"? I've seen dead children on the cover of magazines, images of people falling from the sky. None were framed with such a warning. Does the magazine want to be deemed "brave" for highlighting disability?
