So very sad to hear of the passing of Munira. A brilliant, positive, and strong student leader who will be tremendously missed.
My deepest condolences to the family & the @YRDSB community.
🧵We are heartbroken to hear of the tragic passing of YRDSB Student Trustee Munira Chakera. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones. We are working closely with our schools to ensure our students and staff are supported.
1500 Palestinians face expulsion in #Jerusalem. 200 protesters have been injured. 9 children have been killed. Sanctions on South Africa helped free its black people - it’s time for sanctions on Israel to free Palestinians. Join the call. #SheikhJarrah https://t.co/f9R6LYljez
"The fundamental unavoidable reality at the heart of the [Israel-Palestine] conflict is that there is an asymmetry of power here. One side is the occupier. The other side is occupied."
Me, tonight, on why we shouldn't just talk of 'clashes' in Jerusalem:
You don’t have to be Palestinian or Muslim to speak up on what’s happening in Sheikh Jarrah or Gaza.
Palestine isn’t an ethnic or a religious issue - it’s one of humanitarian and universal concern.
