A Mesmerizing "Space Jellyfish" Lights Up the Pre-Dawn SkyImagine stepping outside in the dim twilight before sunrise and seeing this: a glowing, ethereal creature floating high above the horizon โ tentacles of light trailing dramatically behind it. It looks like something straight out of science fictionโฆ but itโs very real. This is the spectacular phenomenon known as a space jellyfish, created during the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket under just the right https://t.co/aL4sHcmCLw the rocket climbs, it blasts out a massive plume of exhaust โ mostly water vapor and carbon dioxide. At high altitudes, this plume expands into a giant cloud of ice crystals and condensation. In this case, the launch occurred 52 minutes before sunrise. The ground was still dark, but the rocket had already climbed so high that its trail was bathed in direct sunlight, causing it to shine brilliantly against the dark sky like a luminous jellyfish suspended in the heavens. This effect is fleeting and only appears around twilight โ either shortly before sunrise or just after sunset โ when the sun is below the horizon for us but still lighting up the upper atmosphere.Another fascinating detail: in the photo, the rocket seems to be plunging downward toward the horizon. Donโt worry โ itโs not falling! Rockets initially launch straight up to punch through the thick lower atmosphere quickly. But to reach orbit, they must build enormous horizontal speed. They gradually tilt, following the curve of the Earth. From our perspective on the ground, this makes the trajectory look like itโs arcing back downโฆ when in reality, the rocket is accelerating sideways so fast that, as it โfalls,โ it keeps missing the Earth โ thatโs what an orbit is.Of course, this graceful turnaround has become favorite fodder for conspiracy theorists, who claim: โSee? Itโs not going to space โ itโs turning around and coming back!โ In truth, itโs perfect orbital mechanics at work.

A stunning reminder that even the most advanced space technology can create moments of pure, otherworldly beauty right in our own skies.
