Stanley Kubrick was "The biggest fan of 'Spoorloos' (1988)" according to its director, George Sluizer. Kubrick saw the movie 10 times. When Sluizer was working in Los Angeles, Kubrick called and discussed the movie shot by shot with him.

Kubrick said, "It's the most terrifying film I have ever seen in my life."

Sluizer asked, "But have you seen 'The Shining' (1980)?".

Kubrick replied, "'The Shining' (1980) is just child's play. It is not frightening at all compared to your movie."

P.S: On this day, 38 years ago, "Spoorloos" (1988) premiered at the Montréal Film Festival, Canada.

Philip Seymour Hoffman would’ve turned 59 years old today. I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again- Hoffman’s passing is one of the most shocking celebrity passings of my lifetime. It’s something I still can’t accept. How did we lose someone so talented at such a young age? I cling to this man’s work. You could go your entire life & never come close to approaching an actor with this sort of talent. Long live Philip Seymour Hoffman. 🎂
