In 2016, at age 95, Kate Murtagh posed once again with the same joy she had shown during that 1979 photo shoot, when she starred on one the most memorable album covers in Rock History.
Before creating the iconic cover for the Supertramp album, Kate already had a long career in Hollywood, with roles in "Breakfast at Tiffany’s" and "Blue Hawaii," and she continued working afterward, standing out as the villain "Mom" alongside Dan Aykroyd in "Doctor Detroit" (1983). The image went on to win the Grammy for Best Album Cover Art in 1980.
Decades later, now retired in a retirement home for film industry veterans, she held up the album again with a laugh, recreating with the same mischievous gesture the pose that made her, unbeknownst to her at the time, the face of one of Supertramp’s best-selling albums.
The Beatles ascending the stage steps at Tokyo’s legendary Nippon Budokan Hall on June 30, 1966. Marking the very first time a rock-and-roll band was permitted to perform inside the revered national martial arts arena, the Fab Four took the stage under intense security and heavy political scrutiny. Captured from a striking low angle by photographer Robert Whitaker.
🎸 Because Japanese audiences were remarkably quiet and respectful compared to Western crowds, The Beatles could actually hear their own playing at the Budokan for the first time in years. Do you prefer hearing the raw, screaming crowd energy of Beatlemania or their tighter, quieter live recordings?🎸 👇️
This month marks the 100th birthday of John Coltrane.
In honor of this supreme musical force, I’ll be sharing one essential Coltrane song every day leading up to his 100th birthday on September 23rd.

THE IMAGES AMERICA COULD BARELY WATCH — 9/11 REMAINS SEARED INTO HISTORY
At 8:46 a.m., the first plane struck the World Trade Center. Soon after, some trapped victims faced an unimaginable choice — the flames or the fall.
Much of that footage was considered too graphic for repeated broadcast, but the horror of that morning cannot be erased or softened.
September 11 is stamped into America’s heart forever. Never forget.

Realmente no quería entrenar. No tuvo nada que ver con el Inter. Sólo quería ir a casa."
Keith Moon, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, and John Entwistle huddled together under Union Jack flags on a Sunday morning in Manhattan on April 28, 1968. Photographed by Art Kane for a Life magazine rock feature, this shot was taken at the Carl Schurz Memorial in Morningside Heights after a week of concerts at the Fillmore East. Kane asked the exhausted band to meet him at sunrise, wrapped them in flags, and told them to go to sleep against the stone wall. Two curious neighborhood kids wandered by and sat on the steps to watch, creating the iconic image that later graced the cover of The Kids Are Alright.
🎸 Keith Moon, John Entwistle, Roger Daltrey, and Pete Townshend each brought a completely different, overpowering energy to the stage. Which member's playing style was the most essential to The Who's powerhouse sound? 🎸 👇️
