Is this great or what? Subtraction with regrouping is NOT about trading. Trading means kids are using Base 10 blocks – the wrong manipulative. Also means they do not have the necessary pre-requisite skill: subtracting within 20. To do Gr 2 skills, kids need Gr 1 skills!
We can all afford to be a bit friendlier, and numbers are certainly no exception. 😂
Friendly numbers are typically a multiple of 10. Finding a friendly neighbor (like 20 is to 19) is a helpful problem solving strategy for Ss.

To build number sense, Mrs. B is using base ten blocks but not the typical way! Linear models are better for building number sense than using flats (2-D) for 100x and cubes (3-D) for 1000x. Love it!

The adults respect each other, value their colleagues’ contributions, encourage everyone to have a voice, have high professional expectations, and ensure everyone is acknowledged.
This @HaysCISD Principal made huge gains in one year at Hemphill Elementary. This positive referral process was one of her strategies to create a new culture! See more of our principal tips on our youtube channel! https://t.co/rRvJwOCgie #txed#txeduchat#leadupchat
I love how @jamestanton takes down five of the most common objections to using the area model to conceptually teach multiplication. Check out his 9 minute video where he helps make sense of the madness: https://t.co/ZZGZGHVRle
A2. Routines help our students feel comfort and familiarity. This takes away any unnecessary anxiety and opens them up to learning. #NumberSenseRoutines
Always always always teach the concept before the convention! Kids must have conceptual understanding in math before learning rite procedures! #MathPlus2018@gregtangmath
