Interviewer:
Hey, Lewis. I know that when I heard your team radio and you asked to get past, I thought you were going to have at least some pace with the mediums when you went. Were you surprised that you didn't have the pace you’d hoped for, or was that the best you could get at the time?

Lewis Hamilton:
"Um… no. Yeah, well, I mean, ultimately it was a difficult race. On the hard tyre start, there wasn't a lot of grip — I think that's with the rain. And so the track was a little bit green. I lost a lot of time, obviously, behind the Aston at the start.

"And then, um… yeah, things started to come alive. I was getting excited. I was P8 and I got this fresh tyre, and I clearly had a lot more pace than the car ahead, so… in that moment, it was like, 'Oh, let’s utilise it. Let’s catch up with the McLarens.' It was all tight. And just a lot of time was lost in the scenario that we had.

"Of course, in the heat of the moment, it's frustrating. But we’ll go back to it. We'll internally work it out, figure out how we can improve. I'm sure there’s some sensitivities. I’m not scared of sensitivism. We’re not where we want to be. We shall learn that, so… yeah."

Interviewer:
How much work is there for the team to do? Obviously, a Williams beat you today — no disrespect to them — but does that show how far back you are at the minute?

Lewis Hamilton:
"Well, I think Williams are doing an amazing job. They've got James there, who’s doing a great job with his team. The whole team’s fantastic. They've got two great drivers, and they’re really quick, yeah.

"For us to be battling with them and struggling to beat them just shows that we have a lot of performance to find. We're lacking performance in the car. But I think we know where we’re losing it — like China, for example. So we’ve got some improvements to make in the car before we can unlock that performance. But we won’t give up. We’ll keep pushing."
