Using anonymised data from East London practices CEG show GPs recorded 550 suspected cases a day in early April. GP records can provide an early warning system for future outbreaks, and that South Asian and Black populations have higher risks of disease. https://t.co/pEv4fVfjX0
One of the new CHVs, Shadrack Supeet said of their experience “This week of training has been the best during my time as a community health volunteer in Kajiado. Listening to a patient, ensuring they are eating well, providing social, spiritual and psychological care"
So far these newly trained CHVs have reached over 1400 patients and referred over 1300 people with suspected cancer, including 1011 women, for further testing and treatment, diagnosing cancers quickly allows for rapid treatment and thus a higher recovery rate.
One of the aims of our @UKAidDirect funded project throughout was to train community health volunteers. Our project trained 220 CHVs and 59 health workers in basic palliative care, building knowledge and skills to properly manage and care for people with life limiting illnesses
These nurses often go on to open palliative care units and hospices and many of the units we currently support are led by alumni of this course that we have sponsored in the past. A big congratulations, as well as good luck, to all current and graduating students!
As part of our @UKAidDirect funded project we carried out five outreach clinics in Jajiado West reaching isolated Maasai communities with health and palliative care.
This project was funded with UK aid from the UK government
