A colleague today was telling me how much he opposed the #JuniorDoctorsStrike. They have a good salary he said, we give them an internationally recognised qualification that they can take overseas if they don’t like terms and conditions in the UK…
Just questions for my own union, YOU.
Absolute radio silence since you called off the strikes.
You have either been manipulated or you are manipulating us just as you did before. Which is it?
Off record from senior medic in Gr Manchester - re junior docs strike
'Whats App abuzz with colleagues coping...well resourced with a lot of support from all over the hospital. Shame the juniors don't get this on a normal day'
This is NOT ok. If a clinician misrepresented something to this extent they would quite rightly be challenged & asked to correct themselves.
Carefully used ‘should not’ rather than cannot….we see you.
Same as Nurses. Only RNs I personally know NOT supporting strike are B5s. last award closed gap between B5 & 6/7 So now zero incentive to develop for 6/7s as difference in pay is minimal. Tend not to discuss it at work unless someone else brings it up as can be contentious
This will no doubt be an unpopular opinion, but I’ve always taken the stance that if the union votes for strike action, then members *must* act accordingly.
Otherwise we are fighting for fair pay, etc. for members who aren’t making the sacrifice we are.
#TeacherStrike
Massive shout out to all my @uclh nursing colleagues today. Whatever your perspective, the decision of nurses to strike over pay and safety was a very serious one. I have nothing but the utmost respect for my nursing colleagues and we should listen hard to what they are saying
Genuine question. What is the utility of Doctor cannulation & venipuncture?
Phlebotomists, Doctor Assistants, Nursing Associates, PAs, & RN are trained in ≥1 of these. Doctors formulate mx from hx/ex/lx, fine, but should that cover peripheral access/bleeding routinely?
🚨 I interviewed an A&E doctor after her shifts as an emergency registrar for 3 days running
She says: "You can see things getting worse and worse, most colleagues are talking about leaving"
🧵 Thread on what I learnt writing this @theipaper long read:

@AnnG50707311@laurawizadora I can still imagine, when staff talk about shifts in ED I get a physical reaction. While you can’t change the workload you can change how people feel by compassionate leadership. Well being pod always open for hugs & coffee 🤍
It’s pay restoration Steve.
Over 20% pay cut since 2010.
In the last yr you claimed £163,922.60 in expenses.
It would take me 5yrs to early that.
#NursesStrike#NursesPayRiseNow
I will do my utmost to support nurses, but @theRCN’s call for a massive 17.6% pay rise is unaffordable & would drive inflation further upwards. 1/2 https://t.co/gZ0Sl8BOK5
@5wood9 As Health Secretary @Jeremy_Hunt took burseries from Nursing students. It’s now average of £9250 per Annum to be a student RN. This caused a 23% drop in Applications. Thoses RNs would’ve qualified in 2020/2021….would’ve been handy then don’t ya think….#NHS
