Placing humanoid robots in classrooms while schools globally struggle for basic resources isn't innovation. It's a profound distraction from what children actually need.
Education relies fundamentally on human relationships - A robot cannot build trust, mentor a child through distress, or nurture critical thinking.
Whether it’s humanoid robots in the classroom in the USA or the rapid push toward standalone AI tutors for young children in the UK, the trajectory is the same: tech corporations selling expensive software to automate a process that fundamentally relies on human empathy, trust, and professional judgment.

I cannot say this enough. Schools cannot hold up the whole world. Housing, jobs, dentistry, doctors: we need other policy areas to work if there’s any chance at improving children’s lives.

What role does Ofsted play in educational injustice, and what role - if any - does it play in the futures of socially just education?
⦿ 10 June 2025
⦿ Manchester Metropolitan University
⦿ Keynotes and talks from leading and emerging scholars on Ofsted
⦿ Full details soon
“These strikes have come about because of sheer frustration at an illogical pay offer that effectively creates a two-tier sixth form system.”
@AlisonEBennett is spot on. The government need to own up to their mistake and #PayUp
Members in non-academised sixth form colleges will strike again on 29 January and 6 and 7 February.
In awe of @NEUnion
members who teach in non-academised 6th forms.
When the profession got 5.5% they were offered 2.5%. They pushed back and secured 5.5% from April - but they're still out of pocket.
@bphillipsonMP tough on unions is tough on teachers

Really pleased to be at @BeyondOfsted launch in Parliament today. The inquiry headed up by Lord Knight has put forward a robust blueprint for change.
Ofsted has lost the trust of the profession, it's inspection findings unreliable and is a key driver of sky-high workloads.
Excited to hear the discussion about the @BeyondOfsted final report today. Massive congrats to all involved for such a huge, well evidenced piece of work - for the sake of educators and students it’s clear change is needed @SallyThomas89@NEUSuzanneB@MariB_NEU
.@MaryBoustedNEU on @BBCRadio4 earlier, discussing today’s #PayUpNow#SaveOurSchools pay offer consultation and re-ballot results.
“This is a significant achievement – it’s not all that we wanted but we will continue to campaign for better school funding and for a restoration of teacher pay.”
Looking at Labour’s new school
plans; some good things in there, but Starmer is launching in Kent where selection still divides children at 10/11. Want to eliminate ‘snobbery’ and the ‘class ceiling’? Phase out the 11 +. @comp_future@timesupfortest@schooltruth@nualaburgess
We've been looking into England's problems with teacher recruitment, training and retention.🔍
In the first session of our inquiry, @MaryBoustedNEU highlighted the number of children being taught by non-subject specialists.

Our new research out today shows that sexual harassment and bullying is as endemic as ever. We need to see employers taking proactive steps to protect women from harassment. Government must ensure the Worker Protection Bill passes in full as soon as possible.
A superb explanation of the catastrophic failure of this government to protect teacher supply to our schools. We are in a dire situation as this clip shows
“The current inspection framework is ‘doing more harm than good’ and that the current model ‘causes unacceptable collateral damage’ to mental and physical health.”
We agree with @NAHTnews - it’s high time that Ofsted was reformed. #ReplaceOfsted
The latest teachers strike in England is today. We've looked at what's happened to teachers' pay since 2012. It's fallen in real-terms. This 3 minute video has more detail. Produced by Michael Cox, Floyd Cush, Rob England and Robert Cuffe.
🎉Make sure to grab your ticket for this fantastic event next month.
