Reminder: abstracts and registration for the Next Gen Albany Conversations on Biomolecular Structure & Dynamics at LA Tech are due by June 1! Registration, including food and dorms (until full) is only $100. Register earlier for on-campus housing! Link in comment:
Note: June 1 is the deadline for final abstracts. Please submit earlier in case revisions are needed.
It will be a busy July at Wake Physics with 5 PhD defenses! Including three days in a row, July 7-9th. We still need to find places for 4 of them with the Olin construction, so keep an eye out at https://t.co/5sTNJutoU9 for updates.
The tentative program for the Next Gen Conversations in Biomolecular Structure & Dynamics is up now! Plenty of room for more posters. https://t.co/fgZTdFDrYb
Still a few days left (until June 1) to submit an abstract for a poster for the Next Gen Albany Conversations on Biomolecular Structure & Dynamics at LA Tech; are due by June 1! Registration, including food and dorms (until full), is only $100. We will be providing up to four awards recognizing outstanding talks and/or posters presented by undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers! Link in first comment

Congrats to Wake Physics alumnus Dr. Dun for his selection to C&EN’s 2026 Talented 12! The Wake Forest Physics Department congratulates Dr. Chaochao Dun, Ph.D. 2017, on his selection to C&EN’s 2026 Talented 12, an annual list recognizing young scientists whose work is making a meaningful impact.
Dr. Dun completed his Ph.D. in Physics at Wake Forest University, where he was mentored by Professor David Carroll and Professor Natalie Holzwarth. He is now a Project Scientist at the Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research focuses on developing new methods for synthesizing high-entropy materials and understanding their properties for potential applications in energy and advanced technologies. By using non-equilibrium processing methods, Dr. Dun’s work challenges the conventional boundaries of equilibrium chemistry and physics and expands the possibilities for materials discovery.
Wake Physics is proud to announce that graduate student Evan Kumar has been selected for the 2026 Office of Naval Research (ONR) Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP)! Link in comment
@bakermind@Empty_America I don't understand that at all either! I've noticed a trend of cutting BAs in physics or chemistry but not BSs. Though one of the Ohio universities is cutting its BS

@First_alphas Not really, because they were postdocs funded by others' grants. Caltech pays postdocs better than many places, but still not that great for the area.
@effatma if they are paid off a grant, total compensation including tuition can be up to the NRSA postdoc 0 scale, which is below $70k but could be more than $16k
