"I think there's a huge irony here that Andy Burnham is talking about devolving power - empowering local communities, having much stronger mayors, and then wants to hand Westminster's power over to the EU." @zatzi
🚨👉 Nigel Farage has made a strong statement on social media, making it clear he will not cut the state pension.
This comes as Andy Burnham considers scrapping the triple lock.
Farage stated:
“I will cut foreign aid, migrant welfare, welfare fraud, and mad net zero spending.
Andy Burnham will cut your pension”.
Do you appreciate this pledge from Nigel Farage? I do.
BREAKING
Ipsos polling released a few moments ago, on top priority issues in the UK right now. Of 1003 people:
Only 4 (0.4%) thought Brexit/EU was a top priority issue
Only 16 (1.6%) thought Brexit/EU was an important issue
What on earth is Andy Burnham talking about? Talking about the “common wealth Labour created” until the 1980s came along.
Andy forgot to say that under Labour PM Sunny Jim Callaghan, exactly 50 years ago, the IMF had to come in and bail out the UK from the debt created under Labour! There was no “common wealth” created by Labour - just astronomical debt!
History is repeating itself.
Go beyond the vibes, @andyburnham’s speech is about as left-wing as it gets. A power grab that he doesn’t have a mandate to do. Completely unaffordable at the best of times, but not even a nod to the real possibility that we may need an IMF bailout, with everything that entails.
Donald Trump fired an early shot across the bows before talks later this year on shipping’s net-zero targets by insisting there would be “no global taxes” while he remained US president. The US claimed the Net-Zero Framework was a “giant environmental slush fund” as Trump maintained the strategy could raise shipping costs by more than 20%.

Judging by the article in today’s Sunday Times, Labour’s chancellor acknowledges Britain has a problem with an exodus of wealthy taxpayers. But as I argue in my monologue this week, his party increasingly vilifies the rich to justify its existence.

🚨 There’s only one part of Ange’s speech here that you need to pay attention to …
She says expansion of ‘empty homes management orders’
The Government is preparing to expand councils’ powers to take control of privately owned empty homes.
You can still own the house.
You can still own everything inside it.
But an EDMO can give the council possession and management control of the house and legal possession of the furniture while the order operates.
the council can take over its management and rent it to someone else for up to 7 years. You dont get the rent they do. You get what’s left after ‘costs’
Ministers say strengthened powers are coming “very soon” 🚨
Virtually all heavy industry across the West is now in chronic decline. It's all been handed to China.
Manufacturing jobs are hollowed out everywhere in the West, striking at the heart of our power-intensive sectors like electric arc steel, aluminium smelting, and fertiliser production. Once-universal baseload power - abundant, dense, cheap, reliable - is largely being degraded and decommissioned in favour of the costly pipe dream of wind and solar technology.
This pursuit of intermittent, rarified sunlight and wind power is the costliest social experiment in human history, estimated to cost $275 trillion to meet Net Zero. This was a PR target dreamed up to create a new pan-global society in the smouldering ashes of our once predictable lives.
The supply chain for this transition of power has been handed to Beijing. China now produces roughly 90% of all photovoltaic components, refined critical minerals, and panel hardware—cementing its position as the greatest manufacturing power in history through an unprecedented transfer of Western wealth.
In place of high-density power generation, more than a million wind turbines and an estimated 9 billion solar panels are now scattered across our open farmlands, hillsides, and coastal vistas. Because these sources are intermittent and unreliable, integrating them into existing power grids presents a colossal $21 trillion global infrastructure challenge.
This may well go down as the single greatest transfer of public assets by elected democratic governments in world history. Without any serious consultation with their own citizens, Western governments eagerly aligned with the UN and signed onto framework agreements like the 2015 Paris Accord. This end goal of rising networks of socialism and globalism is the certain destruction of sovereignty, democracy and freedom. What began as voluntary international targets has rapidly morphed into binding domestic legislation.
The resulting legacy systematically excluded taxpayers from decision-making, while elite-driven administrations power ahead. These socialist leaderships are committing billions in subsidies to unproven pet projects—such as Australia’s grandiose plan to become the world's first green hydrogen superpower.
Prior to this shift, Western industrial policy prioritised dense, dispatchable energy security. Today, mostly socialistic governments lock in multi-decade decarbonisation commitments that outlast their electoral tenures by decades. Vast tracts of public and agricultural land are greenlit and bulldozed for transmission corridors, access roads, and sprawling industrial turbine arrays.
It's all to serve an intangible belief system that vilifies carbon dioxide, the driver of essential energy and biological growth. The result: The most expensive household power bills in modern history, the destruction of dispatchable coal and gas capacity, and severe damage to national industrial, economic, and defensive resilience.
Net Zero stands as perhaps the most diabolical act of self-inflicted harm ever visited upon democratic nations by their own leadership.
Government by decree is the government of Lenin, not government by representation. Locking in 30-year subsidy contracts strips future generations of their democratic right to adjust failed policy based on real-world performance.
It's a brutal, heavy-handed use of power.
It's depressing that time and again policymakers spout nonsense about gas markets and then use these misconceptions as the basis for policy
My new report sets out in detail how gas markets actually work and why prices are not "global"
Once you understand that there's not even a single European price never mind a single global price, and that UK gas prices now tend to be lower than European ones, it becomes obvious that we need to maximise UKCS production
Yet we use pessimistic projections based on a highly hostile fiscal and regulatory landscape as "proof" the UKCS is on its last legs and is becoming irrelevant
Alternative forecasts from @OEUK_ show significant upside potential if a more encouraging regime was adopted - the geology is the same but the economic context can be changed
The first of my six recommendations is to fix the broken understanding of how the gas market actually works - do this and much of the rest becomes pretty clear

The right need to wake up.
Driving the rich out of our country and levelling down is being done on purpose by the Government and the progressives who have captured the Treasury. They want equal misery for all.
They don't actually care whether tax rises raise any money.
“Politicians make many grand claims for renewable energy. But simple arithmetic shows the ‘energy transition’ is doomed to fail.” @RichardLyon_, author of The Energy Trap, argues that Net Zero should be treated as an engineering project — and tested against the hard realities of generation, storage and demand.
“Engineering projects don’t care who is morally right. They stand or fall on physics and engineering.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's industrial giant Ineos is having to pause production at its three plants in Hull, blaming high UK gas prices. Sir Jim said: "We are being forced to mothball some of the most efficient plants in Europe, but with gas prices now 12 times the level in the US and 8 times that of China, we just cannot compete." Ineos said the move will affect up to 1,000 of its staff.
Net Zero is a disaster for British industry.
