Today, the BBC published their '100 Women 2022' list. It aims to reflect 'inspiring and influential' women and 'explore what progress has been made over the last decade'.

And this is why it's so deeply frustrating to see such an uncritical parroting of campaign lines from news services. Across the world, women's reproductive rights are under threat. Women need journalists to do more than copy and paste an easy headline or misleading quote. 7/

So the impact this case called for was not the restriction of the c.25 abortions a year post-24 weeks mentioning Down's Syndrome - it was the 3500 abortions provided on fetal anomaly grounds. Thousands of women with their reproductive choices set to be stolen by campaigners. 5/

The problem is that it is not always possible to diagnose the severity of an anomaly during pregnancy. No matter how long doctors and women spend trying to get the answer they need, anomalies that are ultimately fatal just aren't covered by a 'fatal fetal anomaly' law. 4/

The court case was *not* about 'banning the abortion of foetuses with Down's Syndrome up to birth' - it was much wider than that. It called for the court to declare that abortions on the grounds of severe fetal anomaly were illegal. At any stage, with any non-fatal diagnosis. 3/
