Terugkijkend het Openingsconcert 2026 van het Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest vanuit het Oosterpark in Amsterdam en zeer ontroerd van de sfeer in het park en de muziekbeleving bij de uitvoering van de magische Tannhäuser ouverture van Richard Wagner, de levenselixer die de ruimte pakte en de interactie tussen het uitstekende orkest en het publiek lucide maakte allen doorvoeld van de schoonheid van deze ouverture, één van de ware meesterwerken uit de klassieke muziek

BREAKING: Anthropic reveals it blocked several possible attempts to use Claude for biological weapons research, including work involving gain-of-function experiments at a military institute.

🇺🇸 Anthropic caught scientists using Claude for research that could help build biological weapons.

These weren’t people asking a chatbot how to make a bioweapon.

The requests looked like normal science, which is why they were hard to catch.

In one case, a scientist wanted help on a grant to make chikungunya more harmful as it repeatedly infected animals.

That kind of work can help build vaccines.

But Anthropic found the actual experiments were planned for a military research institute.

There’s no indication the experiments had actually started there.

That was enough for Anthropic to shut the accounts down.

The users also tried to hide the purpose of the work and dodge Anthropic’s safeguards.

The company still can’t prove these were actual bioweapons programs.

That’s the scary part: the same AI that can help fight dangerous diseases can also help make them worse.

🇾🇪🇮🇷 Something enormous is happening in Yemen.

While the world has been watching Iran squeeze the Strait of Hormuz, the Houthis have suddenly surged along Yemen's Red Sea coast, towards control of the other chokepoint that keeps the Middle East connected to the world.

In roughly 24 hours, they seized around 2,600 square kilometres, capturing Mocha, Al-Khawkhah and strategic islands around the entrance to Bab el-Mandeb.

They've also entered the last major city on Yemen's Red Sea coast still outside their control.

Think about what that means: Hormuz on one side, Bab el-Mandeb on the other.

Two arteries through which enormous volumes of global energy and trade move, and Iran and its closest regional ally are simultaneously tightening their grip around both.

Meanwhile, Tehran is demonstrating that America's military infrastructure isn't untouchable either.

An A-10 and eight F-15s were damaged in Iran's recent missile attack on a U.S base in Jordan. And extensive Iranian damage to America's Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain has reportedly left the Navy reconsidering its future presence there.

This is becoming much bigger than Iran surviving a war with America.

Tehran and its allies are discovering that the two maritime chokepoints surrounding the Arabian Peninsula can be turned into pressure points against the entire global economy.

‼️ An Anthropic researcher says AI could kill us all before 2030 and his is opinion is shared throughout the AI industry. He says senior researchers and executives soften their language for the press while voicing the same fear privately.

In the most aggressive scenarios, he said, things could be out of control by the end of 2027.

He also worked at OpenAI and is now leaving the industry altogether because neither company is acting responsibly: both are racing toward self-improving superintelligence with everyone's lives on the table.

He also takes on the obvious objection, if they believe this, why keep building?

At OpenAI, he says, many people have not really internalized the stakes. At Anthropic they are well understood, but the company is locked in a race to get there first.

The researcher told he had moved to Anthropic only months ago because of its safety reputation, that he thinks the safety work there is sincere, but that it isn't enough: trade-offs become unavoidable when labs are competing with each other and with Chinese rivals.

What he asks for is coordination rather than exits: pacing agreements between U.S. labs, and if it comes to it, a temporary halt on improving model capabilities.
